Jermal Woolridge Advances To Semi-Finals
Bermuda’s Jermal Woolridge has earned a place in the Semi-Finals at the 11th World Wushu Championships in Ankara, Turkey by defeating Waldemar Zimmerman of Germany 2 rounds to 0.
Woolridge [pictured to the left in red] started the match in dominating fashion by slamming his opponent to the mat twice within the first 30 seconds.
The first round was a back and forth contest, however Woolridge definitely outscored his opponent to secure the first round. He came back to his corner slightly fatigued but recovered well within the minute rest period.
In the second round Woolridge fell a bit behind in the opening seconds as a result of being taken down by his opponent but quickly was able to regain the dominant position by reversing his opponent’s takedown attempts and landing on top of him. Woolridge won the second round and the match to secure him at least a Bronze Medal and a spot in the Semi-Finals.
Meanwhile, top local female martial artist Talia Iris took on Natacha Bounet of France on and went down 2 rounds to 0 in a very well fought match. Bounet then went on to lose to China in the Quarter-Finals.
