Pompano Couple’s Golf Classic Day #2
Ideal Conditions made for an exciting second round at Riddell’s Bay Golf & Country Club with many couples taking advantage of a calm and “Bermudaful” day.
TEAM NET DIVISION – “Dark n Stormy Flight”
Barbara and John Wellard, [North Bay, ON] extend their lead to four shots after recording a 4 under 66 today at Riddell’s Bay giving them a two day total of 8 under 133 overall. In joint second place is Robert Leavens and Michele Christal [Toronto, Canada], and Wendy and Dale Sander [Pawley’s Island, SC] both on 4 under 137 overall after two days.
As the Wellards more than likely will look to defend their gross title, the net division looks to be gearing up for a very exciting finish as 5 other couples are well within reach to capture Net Champions.
TEAM NET DIVISION – “Rum Swizzle Flight”
Patricia and Arunas Vasys [Aurora, IL] jump into first place after recording a 1 under 69 giving them a two day total of 8 under 133 and a 3 shot cushion going into the third round on Friday at Port Royal. In second place at 5 under is the couple from North Chemlsford, MA, Kathy and Jim Shannon. Port Royal has already proven to be a challenge and the lead can very easily change overnight.
TEAM GROSS DIVISION
Defending Gross Champions Barbara and John Wellard [North Bay, ON] continue their defense of their title after recording an impressive 2 under gross at Riddell’s Bay today giving them a two day total of 2 over 143. In second place is Kitty and Byron Cottrell [New Smyrna Bch, FL] who capitalized on the good weather and improved on their first round by a massive 10 shots, firing a gross 69 good enough to keep the Wellard’s well within their sights. The Cottrell’s are at 7 over 148 overall.
Prizes will be awarded in the gross and net division. Due to popular demand the tournament, the couples have been placed into two flights based on their combined index. ‘A” Dark n Stormy Flight and the “B” Rum Swizzle Flight. The event has also been increased to a four day tournament. The couple’s will enjoy a day off tomorrow before continuing their third round at Port Royal on Friday with the first couple teeing off at 7:30am. The Format will be better ball.
