Statistics Show Income Increased In 2010
Government’s latest Employment Survey shows that despite a six percent unemployment rate in 2010, Bermuda incomes continued to rise.
Released by the Statistics Department yesterday [Nov.2], the figures showed median gross earnings climbed by 2.6 percent from 2009 and were pegged at $57,915 in August, 2010.
The annual Employment Survey is a tool used by the Government to track and evaluate current employment trends in Bermuda. The labour market indicators are based on annual survey data collected between 2007 and 2010.
“They represent a response to the needs of Government, commerce and the general public for relevant employment information and provide an emphasis on such trends as employment level, unemployment, age, hours of work, vacancies, income and occupation employment level,” said a Statistics Department spokesman.
Women earned more than men, with medium pay of $58,341 compared to the $57,559 earned by their male counterparts.
The median earnings of Bermudians were $55,264 while non-Bermudians earned $69,738 during this period.
The most popular jobs for men weres mason [609 posts held], chef de partie/cook [524] and finance [456]. For women executive secretary/personal assistant was the most popular job, with 897 posts, registered nurse [471] and retail sales clerk [430].
Among Bermudian men, the most popular jobs were heavy-truck driver [399], semi-skilled construction labourer [365] and security officer [356].
Average weekly hours worked were 31.9 — with men working 33.8 hours per week on average and women 30.3.

So earnings rose by 2.6%. That sounds rosy.
Except when you consider that inflation in Bermuda last year was running around 3.4%.
I haven’t had a salary increase in more than 3 years but inflation continues to rise. Go Figure
I have not had an increase in wages in over five years………yet everything else has gone up……

Very interesting… The most popular jobs among Bermudian Men are Truck Driver and Security Officer. In this economy truck driving jobs are drying up and security jobs pay low wages.
