Football Results: Shield/Friendship Games
X’Road’s and the North Village Rams booked their tickets to the Shield and Friendship Finals on New Years Day, after walking away with victories this afternoon [Dec.27] at the Wellington Oval.
In the Shield Semi-Final at 12pm X’Road’s played Flanagan’s Onions, while the Friendship Semi-Final at 2pm saw North Village Rams take on St. David’s.
X’Road’s will match up against Hamilton Parish in the Shield Finals on January 1st, as Hamilton Parish walked away with a 3 – 1 win over YMSC in the Shield Semi-Final yesterday.
The Devonshire Cougars lost to the Somerset Trojans in the Friendship Semi-Final yesterday, meaning the Trojans will play North Village Rams in the Friendship Finals on New Years Day.
Shield Semi-Final: X’Road’s win 2 – 0 over Flanagan’s Onions
In the 32nd minute X’Road’s went in front when Orlyn Williams took on three defenders and found the back of the net with a powerful left footed shot.
In the second half the teams looked flat early, however X’Road’s started to create more opportunities as the game went on. In the 88th minute X’Road’s second half substitute Morricko Iris was brought down in the box, and Khomeini Talbot placed his spot kick to the goalkeepers left to earn X’Road’s the 2 – 0 win.
Friendship Semi-Final: North Village Rams win 3 – 2 over St. David’s
St. David’s took the lead in the 8th minute when James Pace scored, however Kieshen Bean equalized for the North Village Rams in the 24th minute after a defensive mix up and the teams went to the break 1-1.
St. David’s once again went back in front in the 60th minute when Pace curled a free kick around a North Village Rams wall from some 25 yards out and beat Jason Williams. One minute later the scores were level as a St. David’s defender turned a cross into his own net.
Tyrell Burgess then powered the North Village Rams back in front with a blistering drive in the 75th minute to make the score 3-2. The referee blew the final whistle fifteen minutes later, setting up the New Years Day Friendship Final between the North Village Rams and the Somerset Trojans.
