Video: Evans Sets New School Record
Bermuda’s Aaron Evans topped his own school record in the 800-meter run at the Husky Invitational in Seattle yesterday [Feb.11].
Evans competed in the Invite portion of the 800 and finished second overall by just a hundredth of a second after clocking a 1:47.88. His previous school record time of 1:48.07 was recorded at last year’s Husky Classic.
He holds both the indoor and outdoor records at the University of Georgia, and is also the Bermuda National Record Holder.
Evans now has the third-fastest time in the Southeastern Conference this year and the sixth-fastest mark in the nation. Although Florida’s Sean Obinwa, who is No. 2 in the SEC behind Texas A&M’s Joey Roberts and No. 4 overall, has a 1:47.22 this season, Evans beat Obinwa head-to-head by more than a second on Saturday.
“Aaron ran a really impressive race where he beat an Olympian in Kevin Hicks and many other tough competitors,” Bulldog distance coach Jeff Pigg said.
“It’s exciting to see Aaron have this success sine he’s been working so hard with great focus. This is really only the distance crew’s second meet of the year since we are trying to preserve energy for SECs. I think this meet will be great preparation for what is to come in two weeks. This meet has to be the best distance meet in the country.”
