TCD Will No Longer Accept Checks
“The Transport Control Department (TCD) is advising the public that it will no longer be accepting personal or business checks, but rather cash, manager’s check, Mastercard or Visa only,” said a Transport Ministry spokesperson.
“And TCD further advises businesses with large transactions to consider paying by corporate card or manager’s check. For more information about the payment changes, please contact TCD at 292-1271.”
WTF… Everybody catch the bus for a week or 2, they’d change their policy real quick…
Why is it that the big corporations won’t take our checks but we have to take theirs. I want to get paid with cash as well then I won’t have to go the stupid bank either.
Sign of the times I guess. Too many Bermudians passing bad cheques.
Bermuda is a land of paying thousands in cash and usually its upfront. I never been to any place in the world where almost every place only accepts cash. It’s 2012, kids.
I guess you don’t travel much or very far…
Very few places accept Personal Cheque’s. Bad apples spoil the bunch mate.
And you’re right it is 2012 and cash is King followed by plastic…!!! You better get up to the times…!!!
Where I am from, checks are accepted all the time. But that place is called reality.
Cheques belong in a museum. Plastic is King!
I don’t blame them. You accept a bad check and the thieving banks charge you and the person who wrote the check. TCD has no recourse since they are only accepting what is basically a tax.
Credit cards and cash – you know you’ve got the $$$ straight away. TCD is just doing the same as most businesses now.
Cheques are rapidly becoming a part of ancient history as will cash eventually. In addition, the signature will become obsolete and be replaced by the PIN number.
I believe this will add cost to businesses as manager checks at the bank are no less than $40 each. How about a bank transfer that does not cost the business or government.
The way that taxes are going and the way that the small man is being squeezed by Government, I wouldn’t be surprised if Joe Public has to start and get loans from the bank to start paying their car licenses and health/car insurance. Time for a change people. Make it happen or suffer a lot more in the future.
Did anyone ever think Bermuda would be in the state that it is in ? can you imagine seniors having to go without their meds or electricity or even food !!!!
I agree withyou Truth,time for a change !!! is that a song?
With a load of water increasing to $90 , and rumours that Belco is about to rescind the discount for early payment , things will get a lot worse in Bermuda . So hold on and wait until Paula has the nerve to Call IT …
Wow !!!!! so where did you here about Belco is about to recind the discoubt for early payment ?
That will hurt Belco in the long run – I normally pay early, but I will wait and hold onto my money until the very last day if they decide to do away with the early payment benefit. They are thinking very short-sided here – wouldn’t they rather hold onto a lot of money for a few extra days than get one lump sum from all of us on the very last day? I hope they think that through.
That’s why every unemployed Bermudian needs to be employed so they can have the dollars to pay the bills including TCD as every year these bills are going up not down!
Is this back to the future or future going backwards. Just when I was getting used to a cashless world I have to carry cash again.
The thieves must be celebrating.
Credit is dead; trust killed it!
In God we trust all others pay cash
