Court: Man Banned From Football Games

April 2, 2012

37-year-old Ian DeSilva was this morning [Apr.2] banned from attending “any venue where soccer or football is played” as part of his bail conditions.

The ban was imposed by Senior Magistrate Archie Warner who made it part of Mr DeSilva’s bail conditions after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a Security Guard at a football game yesterday [Apr.1].

Mr DeSilva had been kept in custody overnight after Police had been called to the altercation at the football game on Sunday.

Given the opportunity to explain his actions, Mr DeSilva admitted punching the Security Guard but said he was sorry. He explained: “I asked the Security Guard to stop grabbing my arm. My arm is messed up. I just reacted.”

The Magistrate ordered a Social Inquiry Report, adjourned the case for sentencing on May 10th 2012, and granted bail of $5,000 with one like Surety, and the special condition banning Mr DeSilva from attending football games whilst on bail.

37 years old and still fighting. must be from town.

    • Can't Take It Anymore says:

A bit childish from me, but being I am from town, I say this to you…………screwyou and everyone else that thinks just because someone is from town or any other place for that matter that they are inclined to fight! Such small minded thinking from such low self-esteemed pathetic individuals!

      • Sad day in Bermuda says:

Couldn’t have said it any better, that uppity a$$ smh how does he/she know where someone comes from, that’s just a form of racism jackass

    • hmph says:

Really? What are you trying to say? Because I am from Somerset but I have the enough common sense to know that each parish, country and race has its bad seeds. I wish people would stop generalizing one area. GROW UP!

    • My two cents says:

That’s what happens when you grown up without open space. Those that live in town are especially prone to the societal ills that come from living in a densely populated area with hardly any open spaces. This has been proven time and time again. So when you see all this land being destroyed and think its not affecting you or your children or your grand children, think again. And when you start saying you care about people not trees, remember they go hand in hand they are NOT separate. Open spaces are good for the health of us all.

      • andre says:

John Swan and many other noted person are from Town!

        • So What Though says:

Well since we’re on the Topic, It is a known fact that “Town People” are known for displaying ghettofied behavior. Let’s keep it real. Get mad all you want because it’s true Lol…

    • Maddog says:

White supremacy is the belief, and promotion of the belief, that white people are superior to people of other racial backgrounds. The term is sometimes used specifically to describe a political ideology that advocates the social, political, historical and/or industrial dominance by whites.[1] White supremacy, as with racial supremacism in general, is rooted in ethnocentrism and a desire for hegemony and power, [2] and has frequently resulted in violence against non-whites. Different forms of white supremacy have different conceptions of who is considered white, and not all white supremacist organizations agree on who is their greatest enemy.

THESE ARE OBA PEOPLE TALKING A BUNCH OF RACIST.

  2. Can't Believe says:

This is exactly why we have problems. First all where he is from don’t make a difference. But does it make it right for a security guard to disrespect a human being I was to a specific place over the weekend and saw a security guard in some blue uniform must be a new firm totally disrespect a gentleman and after a disagreement at hand took place he new he was totally out of order. So maybe because this genttleman is known for his past does not make it right to try to disrespect because of his previous character when does one deserve respect and until we start showing respect on people I feel this will not be the first and last time someone gets disrespected.

  3. Can't Believe says:

And this is not saying that what he done was right because I was not present,

  4. In Mark's Opinion says:

    Football fever

  5. 1st 48 says:

Get over it please! Ian is a grown ass man that needs to take responsibility for his actions. And why was he out anyway? Isn’t he supposed to be home with his ankle bracelet?

    • cuz says:

Since u seem to know soooo much about Ian, u would know that he got off from the incident that required him to have on the ankle bracelet in the first place. so to spell all out for u, he no longer has the bracelet on and hasn’t for about a month.

      • Boombye says:

@ Cuz …Got off does not = innocent. I agree it should. But in this country – he who has the best lawyer wins. The fact that he “got off” does not mean that his crime was a case of mistaken identity”. You said it , he got off. The facts in this case are simple. He punched someone in public – IN FRONT OF CHILDREN. He is a grown man. Why are the courts wasting more money we don’t have on another social inquiry report! Can’t they open his file and look at the last one. He is a grown up and should be treated as such. Give him a $1000 fine, 100 hours community service and probabtion. If its not his first offence – lock him up for a short period and lets move on. Next

    • Sad day in Bermuda says:

@1st 48 you think you big typing words on your computer you are a dumb stupid little boy

      • star man says:

Nice. Big words like “responsibility” perhaps? But before you criticise others you may want to look at your own grammar. Just sayin’.

  6. cuz says:

    Umjustsayin@#

  7. Wandering says:

It matters not from what side/end of the Island you are from it is all about respect either from the Security Guard or the individual (Ian). Some guards like to show authority which comes off wrong, individuals can get truly offended by this behavior and as the security guard did not know Ian had a problem with his arm, thinking Ian was having a problem with authority – get the picture. Anyway, Ian and others – stay home and watch football on TV like I do – it is safer, warmer and dryer and your beers are only steps away or your sodas.

  8. Judgement says:

Some security guards act as if they are above the law and like many others are bias toward certain people for whatever reason (someones past, skin color, clothes they wear, age, gender, the list goes on) this incident is being blown out of proportion I cant even believe that the police where even called maybe if the security guard had checked himself and went about doing his job in a professional manner, well you never know. When will society as a whole start to condemn actions just as much as reactions because as it stands society lashes reactions but ignore actions both are wrong(unless proven otherwise with good reason) but without action there would be no reaction. Not coming from someone who heard but saw.

    • Boombye says:

Security Guards are an extension of the law. They have a job to do. If you are told to leave a public event…then leave. Simple. I have been wrongly accused in the past and in my teens and 20s I would have gotten aggrevated argued and lashed out. Now as a mature female – I know better.

  9. 1st 48 says:

Thanks for clearing it up because I wasn’t sure, that’s why I asked. but like I said before, Ian is a grown ass man who needs to take responsibility. And saying the security officer grabbed his arm is not responsible. And since you seem to know him so well, tell him go get a legal job, take care of his kids, and give back to his community, legally give back, be a productive citizen.

  10. talk de ting says:

for those who have served as security at a game or anywhere else , the stupidity that you face is out of this` world !! its simple- act mature , pay and behave . its a no brainer!!!!!!!

  12. 1st 48 says:

Actually I have told him to him face, numerous times. Even stopped on court street to him, in front of his boys.

  13. 1st 48 says:

O n so u know, all he did was laugh it off! @ K, you speak the truth.

  14. sharky says:

You guys are hilarious trying to sound like rapper dudes..
Its old and tired, get a lfe,

  15. mills says:

I was there and saw the incident,it all started because the guard was doing his job,Ian came to the game with a bottle of beer and the guard took it from him.while using his security wand to further search Ian punches him in his face.Totally uncalled for then when the police come he runs and hides.

  16. Viewer says:

Adults demonstrate and children imitate. If you consider yourself the adult then you really need to stop the ignorance.

  17. too old says:

Wow!!!!! Some would think that at the age of 37, one would try to set an example. Clearly there is no hope for this old ass man trapped in a 16yr olds mindset. But even a 16yr old knows, that there are consequences for your actions. & to the people on here defending Mr. Desilva you should be ashamed of yourselves.

  18. K/H.O.V.A says:
