Track Athletes Successful Results Overseas

May 27, 2012

Bermudian athletes have been achieving great results this weekend while participating in their championships and regional championships overseas, BTFA President Donna Watson said.

“Aaron Evans has placed first overall in the East Regional championships in the 800m event running in a time of 1.47.31 which qualifies him for the NCAA championships in two weeks,” said Ms Watson.

“Each time Aaron runs he is creeping closer to the Olympic qualifying standard of 1:46.30. It is anticipated that he may run this time at the NCAA as the quality of the field will help push him to that level.

“Dage Minors set a new school record in the 800m event running a time of 1:55.44, breaking the previous record of 1:57. Minors’ 4X800m relay team also placed 1st.

“Arantxa King placed 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 6.55, also moving closer to the Olympic standard of 6.65. Arantxa placed 9th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.82.

“She has qualified in both events for NCAA. To be in the top three, Arantxa will need to jump that Olympic qualifying standard and she is reported to be in great condition to accomplish that.

“Unfortunately Taylor Ashley Bean had a difficult time running in Colorado. Bean is not used to running in high altitude conditions and is finding it very difficult.

“Taylor placed 14th in a time of 2:16.34 which is well outside her best of 2:10.53. All in all Taylor has had a great season so far and we look forward to a great performance from her at Bermuda’s Naitonal Championships and CAC Jnr,” concluded Ms Watson.
