Upcoming: Rugby Camp With Waisale Serevi
The Bermuda Rugby Football Union [BRFU] announced that Serevi Rugby will be in Bermuda between June 27th and July 2nd.
Based out of Seattle, Washington, they will be hosting a Youth Rugby Training Camp for players aged 12 – 21, a 7s Camp for the Senior National Team and also a Coaching Clinic for coaches on the island.
Waisale Serevi made a brilliant, 21-year international career playing international rugby for Fiji and various professional rugby clubs around the world.
Known for his spectacular skill and playing ability participants in the Youth Camp and Coaching Clinic will get the opportunity to learn skills first hand from one of the legends of the game.
The Serevi Training Camp team will provide a two-day progression based youth camp for player’s aged 12 to 21.
The camp programming is designed to improve players’ core rugby skills of tackle, ruck, catch and pass in an environment that mirrors and includes game situations.
The Serevi Coach Education team will be running an intense 3-hour coaching clinic. The course curriculum is formed from the Serevi system and delivery of core rugby skills. As with all Serevi coaching courses it is hands on and practical based. Key focus points are coaching vocabulary, technique indicators and fixes, drill flow and progression.
Says Serevi co-founder Waisale Serevi, “I’m fresh off our U.S. Serevi Academy in San Diego, where I trained 60 of America’s top young Sevens athletes with the help of New Zealand Sevens’ Coach Gordon Tietjens and Argentine great Santiago Gomez Cora. On the heels of that successful experience, it made sense to consider the many programming requests we receive from rugby unions around the world.
“Bermuda made a logical first stop on multiple levels: a motivated partner with a well crafted financial model, relative proximity to Seattle, and well defined goals. We’re dedicated to growing the game of rugby by inspiring and instructing a new swath of youth players. We’re thankful for the opportunity to do this in Bermuda and can’t wait to touch down.”
Adds BRFU Youth Development Officer, Patrick Calow, “Waisale Serevi and his team are rapidly establishing themselves as the go-to resource for high-end rugby programming. Their program will improve our national teams while also elevating the entire coaching and youth development pipeline.”
In addition to Waisale Serevi, the Coaching Team includes; Former ACT Brumbies Development Officer, Evan Haigh, US Eagles Pate Tuilevuka, Miles Craigwell and Nuu Punimata, and William Rasileka, who represented Fiji 2008-09.
