Fall Bermudian Magazine Now Available
The Bermudian Publishing Company announced that the Fall issue of The Bermudian magazine is now available on local newsstands.
A spokesperson said: “This issue features our 9th Annual Interior Design Awards sponsored by BAC/Kohler. Celebrating the best in local interior design is what these awards are all about, and we are proud to once again showcase beautiful, functional and creative projects from our 2012 award winners.
“This year the top residential prize goes to CTX for a stunning family vacation/rental home on a private island in St. David’s, while the commercial win goes to CIG for Aspen’s new offices in One Four One Front Street. Honourable mentions also go to Linberg & Simmons for their stylish new restaurant Taste One Four One, Botelho Wood for the small but impactful Concordia Maritime office and Westport Architecture for their contemporary renovation of Bacardi on the Rocks.
“Other highlights include our cover story “Rising Stars” where we celebrate Bermuda’s up-and-coming young professionals making huge strides in their chosen careers. This year’s stars include Alexandra Gibbons (local sales manager, Rosewood Tucker’s Point), Michael Anthony Bean (server, Fairmont Hamilton Princess), Anchinesh Trott (assistant vice president, relationship manager in investment services, Butterfield Group), Jonathan McBeath (actuarial analyst, ACE Bermuda), Antonia Mills (assistance vice president of business development, Freisenbruch-Meyer Group), Katie Shaw (property treaty underwriter, Catlin Insurance Company Ltd.), Julia Gibson (HR and office assistant, CellOne), Robin Millet (group underwriter, The Argus Group), Kyle Rogers (product manager business management, HSBC Bermuda), Jasmyn Tucker (lead customer-service representative, CableVision Bermuda), Jessica Lindo (assistant vice president, professional lines, Allied World Assurance Company) and Neki Simons (studying to become an animator, currently employed at Lindos).
“Our heritage feature this issue is “Where I Grew Up”, written by Elizabeth Jones who interviewed four prominent Bermudians about what it was like growing up in their parishes and neighbourhoods. Those featured include Ruth Thomas, Stuart Hayward, C.V. Jim Woolridge and Dolly Pitcher who regale us with fascinating, humourous and poignant stories from their childhood. “I used to have to milk two cows every morning, take them out, clean out the stables, feed half a dozen or more pigs and feed the chickens,” reminisces Woolridge in the article.
“Writer Duncan Hall interviewed our new governor, George Fergusson who answers such questions as how he prepared for his new post here, how he can assist in reducing gang violence and improving the economy, as well as the U.K. government’s position on independence for Bermuda.
“We’ve also got the winners of The Bermudian magazine’s first “Stir It Up” Cocktail Contest; our popular Crow’s Nest section (featuring fall events, news, home and garden tips, milestones, locals and more); Healthy Bermuda featuring physical fitness; as well as our regular columns Naturally Speaking, A Letter From London and our Afternoon & Evening photo features.”
The Fall issue of The Bermudian magazine is available at most major grocery stores and pharmacies for $6.90. Subscriptions are available online at thebermudian.com.
