Photos/Videos: Charitable Day For KPMG
Staff from KPMG in Bermuda participated in their annual Make a Difference Day (MaDD) charitable on Friday [Oct 19], in support of The Bermuda National Trust, the Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda (HAB) and the Matilda Smith Williams Seniors Residence.
Bermuda National Trust (BNT)
KPMG supported the BNT in their initiative to preserve and revitalise Bermuda by taking on projects at two properties now under their stewardship:
• Barker’s Hill, Devonshire
KPMG in Bermuda landscaped the Barker’s Hill area by removing the intrusive weeds and growth in the area, soiling and seeding the grounds, and replanting it with native species of plants.
• Prospect Garrison Cemetery
Staff similarly landscaped the area at the Prospect Garrison Cemetery site, but also took on the task of restoring and painting the metal fencing and gates around the National Heritage Site.
The firm donated the newly purchased tools and equipment used at the site, to replenish the BNT’s current tool stocks for the use of future volunteers and initiatives.
Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda (HAB)
KPMG in Bermuda worked with the Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda (HAB), to taking on key projects at the Barn thrift shop, one of the most profitable fund raising activities in support of the charity.
Staff cleaned and painted the interior sales gallery, and sorted through their mounting stock of new and old donations, fixing toys and donating the batteries they replaced.
Matilda Smith Williams Residence
KPMG in Bermuda team members spent the afternoon with the resident’s of the home, serving meals and tea, reading to them, talking and laughing with them, playing bingo and other games, and even entertaining them on the piano.
Staff also took on the challenge of clearing the intrusive brush from around their property and redeveloping the resident’s “box gardens” enlisting the help of Green Rock to ensure healthy growth. Staff painted the exterior of each box with a Bermuda based theme, and planted fragrant herbs and flowers for the residents to enjoy in their recreational garden.
Neil Patterson, Chairman of KPMG in Bermuda thanked the staff for their hard work and efforts throughout the day during a reception that was held at the Police Recreational Club after the event, saying; “Judging from the transformation of the site I worked on, and the feedback I have received from all the other sites, this initiative was another huge success – for the charities we have supported, and for all of us who took part.”
He continued, “The MaDD initiative aims to inspire, challenge and empower our people to make a positive contribution to our local community. Your efforts have again met this aim, and I am once more amazed by what we have been able to accomplish today in support of these charities.
William White, President of the Bermuda National Trust said; “The Bermuda National Trust would like to thank KPMG for their valuable gift of time to enhance our properties.
The hard work put in at Prospect Garrison Cemetery and Barkers hill locations helps us tremendously as we strive to protect and preserve places of historic and natural beauty for everyone forever. “KPMG has come to our aid in full force, with an impressive team bearing an upbeat energy and willingness to help. We thank each and every individual who participated in the day of giving to the Trust.”
