Do you understand the significance of this parade?
Hi all, the parade takes place traditionally all over the world on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th Month as this is when the Germans signed the armistice officially bringing an end to WW1.
It will be happening in lots of other countries at the same time.
Thank you to all those soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of others. May they forever rest in peace and be remembered in peoples hearts as they enjoy their freedom.
@die hard St George’s Fan: the Remembrance parade has always taken place on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, since World War One. This is the historical precedent. I believe that this act of Remembrance is an appropriate one, and keeping this about those who were prepared to sacrifice their own lives for our freedom should be our priority. By the way, I am also a churchgoer who will be participating in the parade on Sunday, when I march with the Somerset Brigade Band. My Scottish grandfather fought in the trenches in WWI, and was wounded. However, I am grateful for the fact that his life was spared. I see no problem in participating in an act of Remembrance on any day of the week, but unfortunately, this particular event happens to fall on a Sunday this year.
@skeptical: I am told that the fee for the parade will be covered by the B.I.I.F., (Bernews Idiocy Illiteracy Fund), which has raised substantial sums of money by threatening to reveal the names of posters on this website who lack the testicular fortitude to use their real names or spell words such as “Sceptical” properly. Further information on the BIIF can be found at http://www.iamirrelevant.com. Have a lovely holiday. Please remember, making disparaging comments on this website about an event in which we honour fallen soldiers tends to generate animosity, especially amongst the family members of War Veterans like myself. If you would like to throw rocks at me, feel free to, I will be in the parade on Sunday.
Graham,
I decided against answering his question hoping he/she would ask someone in St. Georges.
As you know, they have several persons down there who really know much about the subject, and would be happy to pass their knowledge on.
However, I am glad you explained it to him/her.
I hope the weather is good on Sunday so that the veterans receive the recognition and appreciation they deserve.
Well said.
Will Paula Cox disrepect the soldiers by wearing camo for political purposes again.
To those who gave their lives, to those who were there and to thise we rembember, thank you and God Bless you all. 22A
Killed each other to ensure we have peace yes great celebration!
@BdaLuvin presumably you would choose to die, rather than defending your own life, if you were attacked and were forced to choose between killing or being killed? I am nonviolent, personally, but I would certainly not hesitate to defend my own life if it came down to that.
I think his view would be different if he was Jewish, after having your parents pointed out to you in a smoke cload or maybe he’d rather be speaking German as a first language.
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
Thomas Jefferson
Sometimes the sacrifice of a few is worth it for the greater good of many. So thank you to these men and the others that couldn’t be there, for protecting our freedom.
Sorry and women.
