BCS IBM Club Squash Championships
The BCS IBM Club Championships draws were released today with outstanding draws in all four divisions. Three of the four defending champions are back to try and hold on to their titles lead by record breaking Nick Kyme going for an unprecedented 14th title.
Nick will face tough opposition in #2 seed Thomas Sherratt who pushed him hard in last week’s Bermuda Squash Challenge as well as Chase Toogood, Stephen Smith, Mel Caines, Chris Dawson and Bermuda Junior #1 D’Vario Thompson. Last year’s finalist and now full time touring professional Micah Franklin is unable to participate his year due to his pro world tour competing schedule.
Laura Robinson who broke through with her first Ladies Championships title in 2011 is back to try and keep hold of the trophy. She is seeded to meet Isabel Munro in the semifinals and then #2 seed Denise Kyme in the final. Denise is also #1 seed and hot favorite for the Ladies Veterans title which if she were to win the double this year would bring her to an amazing 8 Ladies Championships titles starting back in 1980.
The Men’s Veterans Championship features one of the toughest draws in years. #1 seed is defending champion Jan Brewer who will have to face John Stout in the semifinals before a possible final meeting against younger brother Murray. Murray will have his work cut out for him making the spot in final, he will have to come through a tough bottom half of the draw featuring Andy McComb, Phil Barnes and Tony Muldoon.
The BCS IBM Club Championships now in its 49th year features 60 players the youngest being just 10 years old through to some of the Veterans players who are well into their 60s.
