Deloitte Staff Give Back During ‘Impact Day’
Staff from Deloitte set aside office duties for the day and went out into the community to volunteer their time recently as part of Deloitte’s annual Impact Day, a firm-wide day of volunteer service.
Staff cooked meals for people in need, helped build fencing to protect a new National Trust Community Garden, renovated at Tomorrow’s voices, and worked with Raleigh Bermuda’s youth on a conservation project, as well as painting, landscaping, renovating and weeding for a total of nine different charities across Bermuda.
This year, Deloitte donated and installed two computers for the office of the Eliza Dolittle Society, as well as preparing meals for the Daily Bread feeding center. Meanwhile, in Warwick staff built fencing around the new National Trust Community Garden, an 11.26 acre reserve designed to protect Bermuda’s natural heritage.
“I chose to support Bermuda National Trust because it’s important that we support our national heritage,” said Candida Rocha. “Impact Day is a day where we can put our passion, determination and skills to use in the communities where we work and live, and it’s part of Deloitte’s culture. We have great fun together as we volunteer, and at the same time we’re able to learn about the different charities at work in Bermuda.”
Staff also volunteered at Tomorrow’s voices, which provides hands-on therapy services for children who are diagnosed with autism. The team painted at the center and in the playhouse, with one staff member volunteering extra time separately to the project.
Albert Hollis continued volunteering at Tomorrow’s Voices even after Impact Day, commenting: “Staff at Deloitte are involved in selecting the charities we work with, and Tomorrow’s Voices really resonated with me. I learned a lot about their work and decided to get more involved. After Impact Day, I returned to help the organization with their renovating project separately.”
In the East End of the island, staff worked with Raleigh Bermuda students on a conservation project at Ferry Point Park in St. Georges, helping root out invasive species and plant cedar, palmetto and olive wood trees.
Last year, Deloitte sponsored Raleigh Bermuda’s Malcolm Outerbridge Transformation Award for career/educational development, and staff were pleased to catch up with Bermudians involved in the program, who had been trekking across the island to train for their expeditions abroad prior to working on the conservation project.

- - CADA – preparing signage for the group, which works to encourage responsible alcohol behaviour
- - Tomorrow’s voices – painting at the center and in the playhouse
- - Meals on Wheels – cooking meals for delivery in the community
- - Westmeath Residential & Nursing Care Home – painting the facility’s lounge and entrance
