Court: Man Admits Using Counterfeit Currency
In Magistrates Court this morning [Feb 21], Bryan Edward Marshall, 43, pleaded guilty to four counts of passing counterfeit $50 bills. All the offences took place on Sunday 17th February 2013.
That afternoon, using a fake $50 bill, Marshall — of no fixed abode — bought a movie ticket at the Liberty Theatre and got $38 change. Fifteen minutes later, at 2:30pm, he bought food at Mr Chicken and got change.
At 2:43pm he tried to buy chewing gum and coffee at the Tigermart, but the cashier noticed the fake $50 bill and challenged Marshall. At 2:50pm, Marshall tendered a $50 bill at the Phoenix store and got change from his small purchase. At 3:05pm Police arrested Marshall who, at the time, was on the corner of Church and Burnaby Street.
Marshall later admitted that he knew that the money was counterfeit but that he needed money to feed his drug habit. Duty Counsel Susan Moore-Williams told Magistrate Khomisi Tokunbo that Marshall was seeking to turn his life around and sought the help of Drug Court.
Marshall then faced a fifth charge of prowling, alleged to have occurred in Pembroke on 16th January 2013. He pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Tokunbo ordered a Social Inquiry Report and a BARC report and set sentencing date for 12th April 2013. Marshall will go on trial in late May for the prowling charge. The Magistrate ordered that Marshall must be held in custody until his sentencing date.

After so many this report and that report, will there be a time when we say enough is enough?
Until we the island of Bermuda quickly recognise the seriousness of the lack of jobs and the criteria used in trying to ascertain employment, we may just find more dishonesty in our society while trying to overcome the pressures of no fiances to support anything let alone a drug habit.
There are numerous discussions concerning no available jobs for us Bermudians and still no real solution to this madness. I have been applying for job after job, only to be told I m not qualified or to old. I m a law abiding citizen with flaws; but to be told I require papers to even be a kitchen porter or pot washer is ludricous. This hurts the whole being and if these practices don’t cease; we will find much more than counterfeit money floating about this island.
It is unfair for employers to use a catch 22 to discourage employment among the blacks of this island. Not to many blacks own to many business and that is a loophole for failure for the people. Then we wonder why we are confronted by the nasty uprisings n discord. Yes this bie’ Marshall is most wrong; but do you blame anyone who has to do it by any means neccessary; especially when we really don’t see any care, concern or courtesy. Just the talk……BUT cannot see to walk. The days are getting sadder the sad. What are we to do now? Just saying……………………..
Bodes the question, the drug dealers do not accept counterfeit bills….I wonder why not???
It was the purchase of the crayons from the Phoenix Store that messed him up .
