The former Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands Michael Misick was released from prison in Brazil today [Feb 8] after the Brazilian Supreme Court has granted him bail.
He was arrested in December 2012 at the airport in Rio on a provisional arrest warrant. He was wanted in connection with the findings the 2008-2009 Commission of Inquiry, which alleged evidence of widespread corruption in the Turks and Caicos Government.
A statement released today by the Turks and Caicos Government’s office said, “Michael Misick, the former Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands (a British Overseas Territory) was released from prison in Rio de Janeiro on 8 February. We understand that the Brazilian Supreme Court has granted him bail. This does not mean that the legal process is exhausted.
“He was arrested on 7 December by Brazilian Federal Police acting on a provisional arrest warrant. Arrest was sought by the TCI Special Investigation and Prosecution Team (set up to investigate issues arising from Sir Robin Auld’s 2008-09 Commission of Inquiry). TCI prosecutors submitted formal extradition papers on 28 January 2013 within the 60 day time limit.”

He will attempt to do a runner again!
Please read the full stories on the TCI POST before you come to these conclusions. Your time would come bermuda and you can learn from Turks.
Misick declared assets of $50,000 in 2003, when he was elected. The house he built subsequent to that (2007) is now on the market for $15.75 million. Maybe that is what Bermuda can learn from Turks.
Yes, how do people build? Is it only thru corruption? what about loans etc?
