Ten Track Athletes Qualify For Carifta Games
Following Saturday’s [Feb 9] track and field meet, there are now a total of ten Bermuda track and field athletes who have reached the qualifying standard for the 2013 Carifta Games, which will be held in the Bahamas from March 28 – April 1.
Bermuda National Athletic Association President Donna Watson said, “We are hoping to have at least 20 athletes traveling to Bahamas to the games. We still have our athletes overseas who are just beginning their indoor season and we have no doubt they will reach the Carifta standard.”
Qualified Athletes: U17 Girls
- Tiara Derosa who has qualified in the shot put and discus. In both events she has reached the A standard.
- Kyrah Scraders — who won a medal in last year’s Carifta — has qualified in the 800m and 1500m.
- Quaashie Douglas has met the B standard in the 1500 m.
- Sakari Famous has met the A standard in the High Jump with a PB of 1.64m. This would have won her a gold medal at last years Carifta Games.
Qualified Athletes: U20 Girls
- Kerri Furbert has met the A standard in the Long jump with a leap of 5.76
Qualified Athletes: U17 Boys
- Michaiah Robinson has reached the B standard in the 800m during today’s track meet.
- Antonio Bailey has met the B standard in the 400m
Qualified Athletes: U20 Boys
- Bruce DeGrilla met the B standard in the Long Jump with a leap of 6.99m just outside of the A standard of 7.0m
- Chas Smith reached the B standard in the High Jump
- Quinn Simmons has reached the B standard in the discus
