Gina Spence To Be Honoured For Service

March 28, 2013

gina spenceIn recognition of 35 years of community service in the performing arts, the Board of Directors of Gina Spence Productions in Christ [GSPIC] will be honouring charity creator and namesake, Gina Spence, with a concert on April 20, 2013 at 8pm in the Amphitheater of the Fairmont Southampton.

While the event will focus on highlighting and honouring Ms Spence’s service to the community, it will also serve as a fundraiser to support GSPIC’s programmes to help children affected by gun violence, by providing school clothes and healthy food items, and to assist seniors with purchasing much needed medications. The event will also serve to celebrate Ms Spence’s 50th birthday.

The evening promises to be an exciting presentation of former cast members who got their first taste of the performing arts through Gina Spence Productions, including local artist Gita Blakeney-Saltus, radio personality Power Girl and comedians Nadanjah and Bootsie.

The lineup continues with Kion Simmons, formerly of His & Hers stardom, and has performed internationally with Mariah Carey and the Boston Pops choir, and opened for the likes of Luther Vandross, Patti LaBelle and Kirk Franklin. The evening will also includes Nicole Frances, aka “Lady Tyson”, who currently resides in the UK and is contracted as a singer with a band there.

Ms Spence was honoured by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in the the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for 30 years of community service through her youth street festivals, drama productions and extensive prison outreach programmes.

Through GSPIC, she has raised thousands of dollars to help purchase a heart monitor for the children’s ward at KEMH, and has assisted in providing educational scholarships for young Bermudians studying overseas. She is a recipient of the CableVision Community Service Award, and also served Bermuda in the Senate and as a Shadow Minister of Youth, Community Affairs & Culture. She currently works as the producer and host of the Community Voices FM 89 Radio Show.

General Admission will be $50; Patron tickets will be $100. For more information, please visit the GSPIC website at www.gspic.org or call 704-0224 or 735-4488.
