Old enough to know better…..Always crying down the youth but here you have an overgrown “hairy a## man”…IJS…..a family man at that!!!….SMH,RME and SMT…..Shame!!!!!
Excuse me if your going to make a comment on something, especially if you are going to say he is grown and should no better. You would need to make sentences and use proper language, don’t go around giving advice and making judgements if its not going to be in an educated way.
If you are wondering who this is its his daughter and although my dad may not be perfect and please don’t think I am sitting her and defending him because I am disappointed in him. I don’t and I don’t think anyone who is a family member of his would appreciate your belittling language that makes you seem uneducated and premature to situations like this.
I know its not right, and like I said I am not defending him but think about the persons family that are also reading this.
People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones – I suggest you take your own advice.
My thoughts exactly.
I can talk how I like…It’s obvious that you got the jist of what I said despite my use of “improper language”…..Terry SHOULD know better having just recently been incarcerated and released for a previous violent crime….No one said that he is perfect or should be perfect BUT he SHOULD know better!!!
Sorry if YOU are offended by my comment BUT please note that this IS a public forum and people are going to say things that you probably don’t like….”If you can’t handle the heat than stay out of the kitchen”…In other words if you are going to be easily offended and bothered buy others opinions (which they are entitled to by the way) than perhaps you should stay off this site!!!
Cousin Terry is a coward, my advice tell him to stay in jail. Oh and while he’s there tell him to keep bending over to pick up the soap.
@ his kid first I just want to say he should have unknown Better because of the fact that having a gun in the island other then being a member of the gun club is illegal. We all know this. Also what reason would your father allegedly need a gun for, is he in that gang life I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt that he isnt. So what was the reason for it I can only assume it was, as I’m a person looking from the outside in. We see all over the island that guns are our main issue right now an its people like your father that keeping the fuel burning. So the statement still stands people are saying the younger generation but we only learn by our adults. I’m justly praying that you fathers alleged gun isn’t linked to any shooting or murders. Did you stop to think about that, what if it was, your thinking of your family members but what about the people that have lost loved ones to this epidemic. People are toning to write how they feel specially on the gun issue were tired of it. So as his daughter i charge you to tell your father to help with the problem assist the police make different.
“Know” better not no better, so before you try to chastise someone make sure you come correct. And yes he is a grown man and should know better, especially since he has chrildren!

If guilty, this man needs to have the full book thrown at him!
It is important to note that the training imparted to the officers in the big cities and countries are tailor for those particular countries’ situation. To adopt such training to the Bermuda situation is not wise. The present training as it stands teaches the officers of the Bermuda Police Service to run away from any threat or danger; to the community, to ourselves and or our colleagues.
There was an incident in the western district which resulted in police officer Sean Brooms received serious injury to his head which was inflicted by a machete wielding mad man. All of PC brooms colleagues abandoned him. PC Brooms were left him to the mercy of a raving lunatic. Terry Thomas was later arrested, prosecuted convicted and imprisoned for that incident.
It was reported that when PC Brooms was attacked he was totally helpless for several reasons.
1. He was never really taught how to defend himself in such a situation as is apart of the training in other police organization (PC Brooms was retrained by the BPS).
2. He was only implementing what he was taught by the Bermuda Police Service: run away from the danger.
3. His colleagues also did as they were taught, and ran away from danger.
4. One of the officers even locked herself in the assailant’s house, thus preventing PC Brooms from entering the house when he tried to escape the danger.
Could you imagine such a thing happening to members of the public, with police officers abandoning them in the same manner PC brooms was abandoned?
The Bermuda Police Service seriously needs to reexamine the way it prepares its members to protect the community. The management of the Bermuda Police Service has got to come to a simple understanding that policing is serious business; it is not about appearance but it is about providing such a high level of service that the community feels safe and develops a willingness to help the police, and in the process aids in crime reduction.
Back then officers had an ASP baton and handcuffs, kit that required close quarters interaction. Of course they also should have had courage and resourcefulness but that’s down to the individual officer, you can’t teach that. I don’t know who the officers were that ran away, I can tell you that I would not (and yes, you may think I’m a tough guy behind a computer screen, but I know I wouldn’t run away) and most others that I know in the BPS would not but those there that day assessed the situation and decided to run away; a genuine tactical option, just not one that I would do or one that I would applaud if I were PC Broomes.
Compare the equipment/training then to today. Nowadays they can deploy a synthetic pepper spray from distance and some can deploy Taser, again from a distance. Add to that the island wide, 24/7 patrol of armed officers and I would argue that the BPS is doing as you suggest and better preparing its members.
I’ll bet that officers are still told (and they should be) that there’s no point them running blindly into a situation that they are ill-equipped to deal with, far better to back off, ask for support and maintain observation. I’m not speaking about this particular situation you understand but it has to be part of the training.
“you may think I’m a tough guy behind a computer screen”
Nope, I think you are a soft ex officer who probably couldn’t hack it so you quit. You are full of it & wouldn’t have done jack or jill in that situation & would have ran with your tail between your legs like the rest. The criminal problems we have didn’t start now or even a decade ago they started probably around the same time you were on the force & just escalated because of you & others like you who couldn’t hack it but still wanted that paycheck for not doing their job.
More lies and nonsense I see TC. Keep up the good work.
Can somebody tell me if England’s/UK’s Dave Mirfield, who was brought to this island, out of retirement, a few years ago to train/oversee police officers in the area of SERIOUS crimes still on the island collecting a hefty salary? Since his presence, the serious crime wave has escalated. This means that he hasn’t been as effective as he promised, on the outset.
If he is still here then we must speak to our MPs about this in order to establish if there is anything that they can do to have him shipped or flown out of here. By doing so, this would translate into a tremendous $aving$ for Bermuda.
His Kid the lowest blow you can come up with is proper lanuage come now don’t down play the fact gun and ammo is the greatest factor. You seem like your uneducated.have a beautiful fn day.
LOL.
Weilding a machete, gun possesion… Hopefully they get this piece of S**t off the streets for the rest of his life.
@HIS KID.. is that grammatically correct enough for you..
Some people’s children..(S)haking (M)y (D)amn (H)ead.
Free my big bra
@ Truth is killin me, I have been a police officer for over 25 years and I know countless officers, who have never run away from danger. We have run towards it, when all we had was a night stick. We still run towards it. Remember most officers stil don’t carry a firearm or tasers, just our batons and spray and we still head towards danger.
As they say on ESPN, don’t be a ‘Monday morning quarterback’, talking about they should have done this or they should have done that. If you have never walk in a police officer’s shoes, you have no idea what it takes to do this job. If you think you can handle it, the BPS is accepting applicants, put your name forward.
Like ‘Enough’ said, because 2 officers ran away, dont paint us all with the same brush – courage can not be taught, you either have it or you don’t.
Well said. I don’t know how you guys do it.
People are people and the police force is just like any other gang, out of 10 officers 6 are going to be regular 2 are going to be outstanding and 2 are going to be supercops. Nice story/propaganda.
U run towards danger cuz u have the law on your side. Let’s be realistic no badge u aint running to no action. Truth. These beys r shooting. Like I said no badge u aint runnin towards nothin.
Umm….what happened to the previous “arrest(s) made” & “fire arm & ammunition seizure in hamilton parish” haven’t seen any charged yet.
@ Big Boss: there are lots of people who’d jump in to save or protect a stranger for nothing… You cups get into this so call profession for the money and only the money. Then you have those that harass women on and off the force because you think you have a little power on your side. Can you also justifying the brutality you cups instill on the rights of the innocent people? I personally think that most cups are on power trips and you get treated the way you treat people.
Amen! Preach it Whistling Frog!
Though you forgot to mention the items that go missing after confiscated. I would love for an officer to explain to me about that.
I’ve taking my bumps & stabs protecting myself & others in the past & no police were to be seen. THE POLICE CAME AFTER TO “ASSES” the situation.
I see the liar is at it again.
What I find truly amazing here is that some of you have so many solutions of what should and could be done, but still haven’t mastered the art of good grammar. Or compassion and common decency, since you continued the diatribe after his child made a comment and admitted that they know their father isn’t perfect. And you know what? NONE of us are! I hope that when one of your family members gets into trouble, you can deal with it when they are subjected to the same scorn and ignorant commentary. But perfect people usually can’t!
Diva bad grammar on Bernews isn’t gonna hurt a fly.U and whomever I guess never ever make typos don’t loose sight of this case with a gun and ammo it has weakening our country unnneccessary.
Thank you “Nok”
People are quick to judge the guy but do any of you know his circumstances. We really don’t. Could it be that this man was threatened maybe his family as well. As a MAN he would do what he has to do to protect his family. This is no diss to the police but they haven’t been doing a real job at it. Just let the facts come out before casting judgement on him….he may have had a good enough argument as to why he allegedly had it. If it was for protection…I ain’t mad at em!
Guns are illegal!!!!!!!!!!!No excuses or Bs when are people gonna stand up for something or fall for nothing!!excuses are lame cause Noone is gonna make me do something I don’t want to do n if you do your weak.
Only drugs addicts do stuff they don’t wanna do.Its a suuny day outside.
Free my bra !!! Dnt bash his daughter u people are sick I wonder if any of u commenting know what it feels like wondering if someone in ya bushes Tryna get u until then dnt judge anybody who makes a means to protect themself because that’s what is going on people are fearing for their lives so dnt expect people to not want to protect their lives one day it may make sense to allow people to own guns because this world is only getting colder!!!!! Look out for the children of murdered man Liz they are angry n if their left in the cold then u will see true horror
