Video: Premier On RIMS, Uighurs & More
Premier Craig Cannonier held a press conference this morning [Apr 30] where he spoke on a wide range of topics including the RIMS conference, the Uighurs, the recent visit by British Minister Mark Simmonds, the proposed waterfront development in Hamilton and more.
Speaking on discussing the Uighurs with Minister Simmonds, the Premier said, “My concern is that we have the Uighurs here in Bermuda, they have no status at all.
“If there were something to happen — and what I did speak with the Minister about — if there were to be a medical emergency concerning the Uighurs, our hands are really tied, we can’t even really fly them out for medical attention.
“And I insisted that some form of some way be worked out with the UK that if medical attention is needed that we can fly them out and that they could return. We have also been working with the US on a similar agreement to ensure that.
Premier Cannonier continued, “But as we go forward there are some options. I won’t speak of those options now as we are in talks with the US and UK about what some of the other options are, and we will make those known when it is more clear that they may happen.”
Thanks for the video but the audio is very…muted. Would that be able to be fixed by any chance?
Sorry about that, but it’s the same volume level we generally have for all videos. No one else has mentioned it yet so perhaps you can ‘crank’ up the volume on your PC?
No problem with the audio on my computer, so it would seem any problem is not because of Bernews.
No worries..I just put my ear really close. I know the volume for everything else I had was fine so not too sure what happened with this particular video. No big deal
Poor Premier – stuck cleaning up the scandalous mess made by Ewart and his cronies.
…..who laughed all the way to the Bank. My question is if they can catch up with Miscick & Bush….why can’t the same fate befall these lot?
Does this guy even have a clue?
I mean someone gives him something to read, and he can’t even not say “uhh”.
I like our premier,he is one of the best we have had in a long time.
I wonder why the Premier doesn’t hand out a press statement as his Ministers do.
you are right he is one of the best premiers we have had for a long time.
I have a feeling that the IB are going to be returning to the promise land.
