Nahki Wells Wins Bradford Top Scorer Award
Nahki Wells picked up the Top Scorer Award during the club’s annual end-of-season awards evening last night [May 7]. The 22-year-old Bermudian is the lead scorer for the team, having racked up 25 goals so far this season.
There were a host of awards given out, including five Player of the Year awards, which were all scooped up by Gary Jones. Wells placed second in the Bradford City Supporters Trust Under 25 Player of the Year division, and third in the Shipley Bantams Player of the Year division.
Bradford is heading back to Wembley Stadium for the second time this season, after their recent 3-1 victory — in which Wells scored twice — against Burton Albion qualified them for the League 2 play-offs.
They will return to Wembley for the final on May 18 where they will take on Northampton, with the winner of the match earning a promotion to League 1.
Wells has a very solid record when facing Northampton, having scored in four out of the last five games against them. In April 2012, he scored a hat-trick while playing against Northampton.
Speaking to the Telegraph and Argus, Wells said: “Twenty five is the exact number I set out for myself to score at the beginning of the season so I’m delighted to reach it. But I know there are more to come yet. I’ve got two more in my locker – I’ll save them for Wembley.
“I’ve scored against Northampton already so I’m confident that I can do it again and help us get promoted. It’s a big occasion, not only for myself but all the players. It’s been a phenomenal season and we all deserve it.”
Congrats Nahki!
Another ‘son of the soil’ of which we can be proud !
