From July 8 to July 19, two teams of four Bermudian university students will be learning in depth about the insurance business in two different US cities, Chicago and Atlanta. BFIS has been sending students to Chicago since 2006 and this is the second year they have sent students to Atlanta.

Cathy Lapsley, BFIS Executive Director said, “We are delighted to be sending another eight students overseas to learn all they can about the insurance business and gain that valuable overseas experience. It takes a lot of organization and planning to coordinate these programmes and BFIS appreciates the help we get from the Katie School of Insurance and Finance and their alumni with the Chicago programme, and in Atlanta from former BFIS President, Mark Limaand Barry Woods of Georgia State University.”
BFIS Intern Programme Coordinator Jane Bielby noted that a number of companies have remarked that the caliber and focus of the students BFIS sends makes it a pleasure to host them.
BFIS President and Chairman of the Board Michael Fisher noted that none of this would be possible without the tremendous support of the industry both in Bermuda and overseas whose members generously donate time to share their knowledge, insights and experience with the students.
At the briefing meeting last week, Magic Boyles [Atlanta Intern 2012] and Dominique Richardson [Chicago Intern 2012] talked to this year’s interns aboutwhat to expect, how to make the most of this opportunity and what they gained from taking part last year.
