Man Jailed For 90 Days On Machete Charge
Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Aug 7], Ross Parsons, 42, was sentenced to three months in prison after being convicted for possessing a machete outside of Place’s Place.
Parsons had been on remand since 19th June and the 90 day sentence includes time already spent in custody.
The machete had been found strapped to Parson’s body but inside his pants. At the time, Parsons told Police that he used the machete in his work as an asbestos worker at Morgan’s Point.
However, Senior Magistrate Archie Warner said that he rejected that explanation, took account of his past record of convictions for violence, and the content of the Social Inquiry Report and sentenced him accordingly.
Parsons asked if an outstanding fine of $1,300 could be dealt with now by his serving prison time in lieu. The Magistrate said that the default time for non-payment would be 100 days, and asked Parsons if he wanted that added on to his just given 90 day sentence.
Parsons then asked if he could get time to pay after he was released, and the Magistrate, noting that Parsons was likely to be released very soon, gave Parsons until 7th September to settle the fine.

So much for the minimum 3 years in jail for possession of a bladed weapon…instead lets negotiate payment terms.
So true JD I was thinking the same thing reading the story!!!!Bermuda is another world and it not always good thing.smh
COURTS ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFT AS CLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH!
Am I reading the Jamaican Gleaner? Bermuda is turning into a third world country. Shame.
“he used the machete in his work as an asbestos worker at Morgan’s Point”!!!! In his pants too! At 42 it is time this man was held accountable for his actions, and not a slap on the wrist as he was given by Archie.
just meet me at spring garden we can work something out hmm
A comical sentence ……
Serious? 3 months for a bladed article, strapped to his body, concealed in his pants, and a history of violence. Than he negotiates how to get off paying a bill he would never pay until he gets prison time again and try to get a write off !!! WTF. All this BS being allowed in Magistrates Court.
This guy Warner is an absolute “joke” when it comes to handing down decent sentences that compare to the crimes committed and the laws on the books!!!
90 days is a joke as the law now says 3 yrs in jail for possession of “bladed weapons” – especially when you have previous convictions for violence!!!
Time to sent Warner out to “pasture” – because he is becoming an embarrassment in OUR court system!!!
Someone needs to start a “petition” to recall Warner from the bench!!!
