Taxi Driver Denies Indecent Act, Offensive Words
A taxi driver appeared in Magistrates Court yesterday [Aug 9] where he denied charges relating to acting indecently towards a female passenger in his taxi, with the Court hearing he allegedly exposed himself.
The 60-year-old pleaded not guilty to three charges: intruding on the privacy of a female, committing a indecent act; and using offensive words and making offensive gestures.
The charges stem from alleged interactions between the driver and a female passenger who had taken the taxi for a ride from Hamilton to St George’s.
The Court heard the taxi driver allegedly starting fondling a certain part of his anatomy, and asked the female did she “want to play with it.” The female asked him to “put it back in his pants.”
Senior Magistrate Archie Warner remanded the driver into custody until 23rd August when he will return for mention. Prosecutors told Bernews the defendant cannot legally be named at this time because of the section he was charged under.

They were once called Ambassadors for Bermuda! Even though they cannot all be painted with the same brush TCD needs to be more vigilant in who is issued a license.
Some of their dress codes and conversation is disgusting. Just stand in the City Hall parking lot above the taxi stand and observe every now and than.
Back to this gentleman, I know employment is difficult but if this is true he should have his license revoked for good.
Yes they should ask them on the exam, “have you ever or do you intend to whip out a certain part of your anatomy and ask passengers if they want to play with it?”
That’ll get em!
so glad i dont live in Bermuda anymore !! locals are primative ::(
they sure are
they sure is.
@rob and @tim henry
Rob, I’m exceedingly glad they you don’t live here either. Tim, if you are here I hope you quickly find an exit.
It takes an extremely blunted intellect to infer such from this article or even the collection of articles in the Courts category.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, wherever either of you are from, I’m certain that the daily news is rife with all manner of nefarious and skulduggerous goings on to such a degree that this little island would appear to be the picture of paradise. I’d heavily wager that indecencies of this nature (and far worse) are so commonplace amongst your local peoples that the media ignores them as background noise in the larger beast of illegal activities.
Perhaps you should consider this before confirming your ignorance with such inane commentary.
Ride
like!! its amazing how people like to always make it seem like certain things only take place in Bermuda.. what was allegedly done was a terrible act, but its not confined to this 21 mile island,, lets be for real.. Also the comments that always say “Bermuda is the most racist place in the world” are just as funny..
what’s wrong with you @Ride, you can’t recognise when people are on here just to incite and agitate. Take no notice.
Crude & stupid comes to mind. Automatic permanent revocation of license is in order. These guys need a wakeup call.
However in other parts of the world you have people locking up women for decades as sex slaves, mothers murdering their own children, school children gunning down their classmates. Though that is OK with you? Rob & your two followers show how primitive your own thought process is.
So you think we should let off perverts? The creep should not be a taxi driver.
good don’t come back
Rob, what an ignorant statement which obviously originates from an ignorant person.
Where are you now living, that is your new paradise. Might it be the USA? My childhood friend was murdered by a Taxi Driver there. Do I hold the people of the USA, or Miami accountable for the actions of one! No!
Do you live in Canada, my cousin was raped in Halifax while in University. Do I hold the people of Canada or Halifax accountable! No!
Perhaps you live in Australia now, where another childhood friend was killed by a drunk driver. Do I hold the people of Australia or Perth accountable, NO!
If this is the way you think, then I too am glad you are gone. We have enough narrow minded locals and foreigners here, good to see one has left!
YOU SURE? Is that why you still care enough to read our news? I didn’t know Bermuda and only Bermuda had perverts.
You are stupid in two ways. First you paint all Bermudians with the same brush because of one individual’s action. Secondly, you imply that where you reside is different from the rest of the world.
Wherever you reside Rob I’m certain there are those who have committed the type of offence this person has been accused of and worse.
If not let me know where you’re at and I’m coming to live in Utopia.
If guilty, creeps like this need be dealt with with a heavy hand… We want the best people, but over time it would appear that the high standards have been shoved aside. Rest assured there are many others just like this alleged low life!!!!
If guilty, this man must never be allowed to drive a taxi again.
Why isn’t he named and shamed??? Hopefully he will lose his taxi license….how is one to know (female) whether to get in his taxi alone?…amazing that he can’t be named and he HAS been CHARGED and CONVICTED but yet try just getting arrested and your name is spread all over the paper….so sick and tired of perverts remaining unidentified for “legal” reasons…..damn shame….
Why is it earlier this week, a man was named by the press for his indecent act but today the accursed is not!? Earlier in the week the alleged crime involved a teenager, but the alleged was still named, and this case seems to involve a mature individual, so it has nothing to do with protecting a child?
Someone please clarify. Why the double standard?
One plead guilty the other didn’t?
In a couple countrys to the west of us all you have to do is be arrested & your mugshot is all over the media. Here the criminal is protected like an infant. What makes Bermuda so different from any small town anywhere else?
There are websites elsewhere showing where convicted criminals & molesters live. Not here. One could be next door & you would never know.
Women aren’t safe anywhere in this world. Not even a ride home in a taxi. 60 years old? Seriously? If guilty, he’ll get a slap on the wrist for his dirty old man behavior as usual.
If guilty, CHOP IT OFF
Did it happen? Probably did but take out the GPS and put in a camera (go pro) and you can either prove it or not. This type of thing is he said she said. What would happen if she wanted to get even for something he did to her or someone else in the past. Just sayin.
First, he is not the first or only! My first sight of a male organ was when I was 6 (more than 50 years ago), walking through Warwick Lane with a couple of friends. We were followed by a taxi driver who would pass us, stop and as we passed his taxi, he would open the door and shake his privates at us. This sequence was repeated a couple of time, then stopped. We turned to look in case he was still following us and he was off in a field finishing the job. We didn’t know enough at the time to take his licence # but I doubt if it would have made a difference back then. People weren’t going to court for this type of thing in those days. I applaud the young woman who reported this incident.
Second: I believe the law says that names cannot be published when (a)there is a possibility that the victim can be identified, as in the case of a relative or someone living in the same house, or, when (b) the person has pleaded not guilty, based on the possibility that he might be innocent. Once he is convicted, then he can be named.
