Photos: Passengers Escape Car Fire In Paget
[Updated] The Bermuda Fire Service responded to a car fire this morning [Sept 21] at approximately 9.45am on Rural Hill in Paget.
The driver told us that the car, with passengers including a young child, was traveling east near Treetops Nursery when the driver saw all warning lights coming on and pulled over. Smoke started coming from the front engine compartment area and all the people in the car got out safely.
About three passing cars stopped and used their extinguishers to help deal with the car fire before the Fire Service arrived on scene and hosed down the affected area.
Police were at the scene and directed traffic away from the area with commuters experiencing delays from the backlog of vehicles. Just east of the car fire scene, there was a minor accident where it did not appear that anyone was injured.
Update Sept 23, 5.41pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 11am on Saturday, September 21st police officers and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel attended a reported car fire on South Road in Paget near the junction with Stowe Hill.
“Apparently the car was being driven along South Road at the time, causing the driver to pull to the side of the road. No one was injured in the incident; however the car apparently sustained front end damage. Traffic was temporarily delayed in the area until the damaged vehicle was towed away from the scene.”

Bernews what is going on at the L.F W. airport it seems that there is no electricity !!!!!! and they are looking for flash lights !!!!!
Sorry…we have no idea to be honest…and with the Gombey Festival and the Lennon concert both on tonight we are stretched to our limit, so can’t even dash out and check!
Hmmm..and all the world wonders “what does a car fire in Paget have to do with no lights at the airport?”
Kudo’s to those that unselfishly used their fire extinguishers to help.
Battery probably shorted on the hood.. Be amazed how often the wrong size battery is jammed under the hood with only the plastic terminal cap keeping the positive from grounding out..
When a Peugeot drives by you listen to the grinding noise the engine makes. Would never buy one.
A Peugeot no less! I own one and never will again. Ask anyone with a Peugeot and they’ll tell you it’s a LEMON!
