Premier Hails Gibraltar Meeting As A Success
Premier Craig Cannonier concluded his meetings in Gibraltar yesterday [Sept 11] and hailed the visit a success. While the purpose of the meeting was to set the agenda and to develop a more cohesive voice when communicating common issues, prior to the upcoming Joint Ministerial Council meeting which will be held in London in November, the meeting also created greater partnerships between members of the Overseas Territories[OT'S] by developing increased synergies for economic diversification amongst the countries, such as the potential for a single market.
Attending the meetings were Premiers, Chief Ministers and Members of the Legislative Council from; Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Montserrat, Pitcairn, St Helena and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
[L-R] Hubert Hughes, Chief Minister Anguilla; Ian Hansen MLA, Falkland Islands; Dr. D. Orlando Smith OBE, Premier BVI; Fabian Picard, Chief Minister Gibraltar; Dr. Rufus W Ewing, Premier of TCI; Reuben T. Meade, Premier of Montserrat; Craig Cannonier Premier of Bermuda; Deputy Mayor Simon Young, Pitcairn
Premier Cannonier said, ” We touched on a number of topics and discovered that we have a lot in common. For example, all Territories are working towards job creation and economic growth. There was a discussion surrounding employment opportunities and the requirement for expertise in intellectual capital.
“There is also a strong desire for all Territories to have the right to ‘self-determination’ as opposed to independence. In a modern day partnership with the UK, it is important to have open discussions on good governance of the Territories and the need for global awareness of our collective issues.”
The Premier stated that the strongest message from the meetings were the global capabilities of the Territories as a whole. “Collectively we represent half a million people in population. On a global basis, we are leaders in international business, environment and biodiversity achievements and are rich in natural resources.”
The Premier further remarked that he admired the spirit of the people of Gibraltar for their strong national pride, as Leaders of the OT’s participated in the Gibraltar National Day. He also applauded the Government of Bermuda’s London Office, spearheaded by Ms. Kimberley Durrant, for assisting with the meetings and representing Bermuda as the leader amongst the Overseas Territories.

Mr. Premier, the UK have already stated that any further constitutional changes giving Bermuda more autonomy = INDEPENDENCE. Time to talk to MP Walton Brown!!
craig, You put your left foot in,
You put your left hand out,
You put your left hand in,
And you shake it all about,
You do the hokey pokey
and you turn yourself around
That what it’s all about.
stand to the camera bie.
Pitcairn Islands is a very long way to get back too.
I was amazed to read there was someone from that very remote Island.
Yes please get advice Premier Puppet because in a few years Bermuda will be on the same level. Pi$$ poor if you remain leader.
A single market between the OTCs? Self-determination, BUT NOT independence? Premier, what are you talking about? I’m actually lost for words………..can Mike Hind please help me here…..before I throw out any “wild claims”, I need somebody without “bias” to clarify what these statements mean. Clearly our Premier has some special gift…….
Why bring me into it?
I’ve never said anything about Independence on this site, other than MAYBE “I see no reason for it… and no one’s given me a good one.”, but I don’t remember if I have here on this site or not.
I don’t have any idea what he’s talking about, either.
Now, if you want to express an opinion about the topic, and have an open and honest discussion about it, with give and take, questions asked and answered and claims backed up with evidence, I’m all ears.
If you want to call Premier Cannonier a puppet and tell a whole bunch of stories without backing them up and throw out baseless accusations based solely on your unwavering support of your party, regardless of the truth or reality? If you want to make a load of ad hominem attacks because someone disagrees with you, if you want to play the same silly games you usually do, making a mountain out of a molehill, hoping that the mud will stick?
Leave me out of it.
Which is it?
Honesty and integrity or the same silly propaganda games?
Here’s your chance to prove you’re not just another demagogue.
Mike shut up, I voted for the OBA this time. Like many people did. I’m what you call a swing voter.
Be honest now the Premier does not know how to lead. This is the future of Bermuda we are talking about. Forget the PLP and stop coming on here looking like a oba troll. Don’t you have anything else to do besides comment after everyone’s comment. Even as a party supporter I get tired of your silly replies.
they asked for his reply you dummy. you STFU already. wha ya dumb?! go lay down ya moron
And still cant get him on de Sherrie J show!!!!! LMAO
only an idiot wants to be on Hate Radio!
No one is fit to be a leader who is AFRAID to be interviewed by a
radio host!!!!!!!!!!!! PATHETIC and EMBARRISING !!!!!!!!!!
No. Your attempts at smear (and your spelling!) are pathetic and embarrassing… and hypocritical.
Do better.
Ya but the readers and you understood what I wrote and it’s true. Want EVIDENCE !!!!!!!!!!! LMAO
If I thought you had any…
Which you don’t.
And, again, I find it very telling that you show such disdain for actually backing up claims.
It says a lot about the things you post that you not only constantly refuse to back up your posts but actually denounce the practice of doing so.
Says a lot about you as a person, too…
nuffin but da truth
First time i have heard about that radio station you are talking about.
Common cause ‘ when the OBA leader comes right out and says he supports Bermudian Independence; I will have his back; just like I stood with former UBP leader Sir John Swan dared cross the river on this issure.
What a waste of time. They talked, had found they had a lot in common……and had no solutions.
Together they represent 0.5m people…..wow, as big as Bradford in the UK…..
Always very sceptical when people announce a meeting was a success., usually stated as a justification for attending. The success can only be measured after the forthcoming meeting with the UK
