[Updated with video] A 56-year-old man was found dead this afternoon [Oct 5] in St George’s.
Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said that police can confirm the death of a 56-year-old man who was found in a “compromised state” on Barry Road in St George’s and was pronounced dead by an on call physician.
Mr Caines said that foul play is not suspected, and that no further information can be given until the next of kin was notified.
The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also responded to the incident, and a small crowd gathered to watch the proceedings.

some people have nothing better to do than get pokey!
This is Bermuda we’re talking about.
It also could have been potential family/friends/neighbors of the deceased. Concern vs Curiosity
You may not be concerned about a dead body but I assure you most of that who still have their humanity are. We do want to know who it is and what happened.
Curiosity
funny how ONLY IN BERMUDA do people stop and watch a crime/murder/accident scene.
this happens NOWHERE else in the world.
Hate it when people make it sound like some things happen ONLY in Bermuda.
Nope – no one in NYC ever stopped to see a police scene…no, not in big fancy metropolitan NYC, they wouldn’t do that. Only in small backward Bermy.
to that I say, “bie f*** off”
Bravo! My sentiments exactly.
Why do we always refer to North America as “the rest of the world”? Indeed there are countries where most traffic hold-up near an incident is caused by curious onlookers!
What are you talking about? There are always crowds on TV when they find a body. That’s why they use yellow tape to do crowd control. Maybe hard NYC isn’t phased, but most of the US and the world react when a body is found.
It’s called sarcasm…
dont be an a**… people do that ALL OVER THE WORLD!.. travel and learn something.. and NO IM NOT TALKING ABOUT TO THE STUPID A** USA!
Exactly what i was thinking EXACTLY
uh…i live in NYC and…Yes they do. You are wrong
They have a term for what you are describing… morbid curiosity. And I’m sure it wasn’t invented in Bermuda.

Totally Agree….
Lies. You can go on youtube RIGHT NOW and see tons of videos of people standing around watching crime/murder/accident scenes. Stop it.
Not true Ironic!
Im in Vietnam at the moment and let me tell you they stop and take a look here too. They are more pokey than Bermudians if you ask me.
- Just saying
I was just in NYC an watched a crowd of “onlookers” gather after a suspected shooting . Police with guns drawn didn’t even deter these “pokey” people. Obviously this phenomenon doesn’t only apply to Bermuda as you suggest.
Exactly people everywhere stop and look….hell you just need to watch The first 48 hours to see that…..
Exactly! It’s called rubbernecking (especially in relation to bypassing a traffic accident)…it is defined as ‘the act of gawking at something of interest’…it is a normal human trait and is done ALL OVER THE WORLD!
what does Compromised State Mean !
They are not giving much details on this–mainly because next of kin and other family members must be notified– They would much rather not tell the public at large.
To All You Pokey People Who I F’d Off For Being Pokey….Let My Daddy Rest In Peace….We Are Grieving…..No Negative Comments….PLEASE!!!!
Condolences to you and your family at this time. RIP.
So sorry for the loss of your Dad. Can’t blame you at all for being angry at those nosey people. I hope the good memories of your father sustain you during this painful time. Bless.
Again, i have to say this. Why do family members even come on news websites and read the comments? You know full well this is a public forum and people will say what they want. You cant stop that. Do yourself a favour to save your sanity and seek comfort from your family and friends, you will not find it here.
Good girl; if anyone don’t have anything good to say. Please don’t say anything at all. This is one more family/daughter that has lost a man in there family.let’s pray that God will up hole them all.
My condolences to you and your family. May God wrap you in His arms and give you all the comfort that you need at this time……… May he R.I.P.
buzz, I was wondering the same thing….!!!
@Tough Love I would venture to say that ironic was using a bit a sarcasm as not even New Yorkers are immune to this.
@buzz& paul, don’t forget you can google just about anything in this day and time.
My deepest condolences to my dear friends family, this family needs to mourn the lose of their son,(father, brother). My heart goes out to them at the untimely death of this dear friend of mine who was the one that brought me to accept the LORD…… I will forever miss you……
@ Marie
This is an excellent testimony. He has passed on from this life but left you as part of his legacy. May you pass it on and extend his legacy.
My mom just called me to tell me about this. Commentary on this story is disrespectful indeed. A man has died. He is a father, a son, a brother! We must do better than this. My heartfelt condolences to the family. We spent many years playing together in our younger days. May he rest in eternal peace and God bless his entire family especially his mom who has spent a lifetime giving and helping everyone. My prayers are with the family.
Oh please, what exactly is disrespectful?
Oh please coming from Ms. goody 2 shoes, Shawnette who is always blasting everybody else. Take a seat and just STFU. May this gentleman RIP and condolences to his family and friends
Oh thank you so much “Reeves”….shall I reveal your identity as has been revealed to me….or will you? LMAO! Unlike you my dear I do NOT hide behind a fake name……coward!
At the end of the day it’s freedom of speech but at the same time it’s certain things about certain situations that shouldn’t be said. Put yourself in these people shoes; they just found a loved one dead. Nobody’s knows what these people are going through, so understand how this family is feeling. Ease up with the comments.
My point exactly. Some people need to put themselves in others shoes and think of how they may feel in a similar situation before they start making negative or hurtful comments…….. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Some people have s*** else all to do except comment on everything.
Technology ………..the ruination of mankind; seen here today.
Go for a walk or something.
Shalom.
Maybe you should take your own advice lol because you’re commenting as well
The reality is that people are too judgemental thes days, whether the story indicates onlookers where present is
NOT the news being reported!!!! The report is a male was found dead – like others have said someones son, brother and father!!! Can WE respect THIS????????? Why do WE reshape the breaking story and make it about what people do in Bda, NYC or any place in this world????
Where has OUR compassion gone??
I have had a family member die under suspicious circumstances with the story posted on various online news sites. I Personally chose not to digest the comments, this is a forum of free speech and I do not own the website therefore people are entitled to say what they want whether I like what is said or not.
Person’s and family member need to seek condolences elsewhere if they are unable to stand the negative comments. People will continue to die, that’s a given, most wont have a headline story in the news media but when they do, it’s an open field.
I’ve had my turn reading about a close family member’s passing and did I get upset over the comments, no. I respect freedom of speech and public forums.
Oh, and I would never send out condolences to someone over a comment section and under a pen name. That’s tacky.
My condolences to all who have lost and are grieving.
Yes, condolences to the family & friends of this gentleman.
Bermuda needs to do better by its own otherwise there is no point being there
It’s not that we lack compassion. A stone was thrown calling Bdans pokey. That comment alone sifted the focus off the topic. To add insult to injury the daughter statement added further fuel. So people became naturally defensive.
Regardless of it all, my condolences to the grieving family. And maybe we all can take the higher road instead of focusing on that ill comment.
The gurl just lost her father literally **** ***** ***** so how do you people expect her to feel? I would’ve f’d people off as well
People stop being so sensitive-Bermudians have more of a tendency to be curious (or pokey) as some put it than other places because we are a smaller community, which means that most likely some of us have either worked with, gone to school with, gone church with, lived beside this gentleman, and just are wanting to know things, which yes, may or may not be our right or business. Stopping to watch a crime,or accident is human nature, and is not meant to insult or harm anyone, it is the basic curiosity in man, and is done all around the world, N.Y and Vietnam alike apparently. Lets not accuse the public of being pokey when it may have been their pokiness that found the body in the first place, who knows. I do not find anything disrespectful about anything anyone has said on here. But as long as we have blogs you are going to find positive and negative comments, come on, be mature, take the good and ignore the bad. After all is said and done, I pray that God bless this family with peace.
I live right across from where this happened and had no clue what was going on as I was asleep at the time. I didn’t hear about it until I saw the news. Not everyone is pokey
I would like to thank all of you who sent out there condolences. If you knew my dad would have known that the last couple of months he was all ways in pain and when the hospital refused to admit him that’s when he thought it was no more hope for him and that’s when he just gave up on life all together, his in a better place now and is pain free. RIP Aruther Roger Botelho…… we will always love and miss you for ever
