Pier Six Renovated And Building Upgraded
The City of Hamilton today [Oct 30] announced that Pier Six has been renovated and the building upgraded. The cruise ship Arrivals Terminal has moved to the lower level, and the upper level has been turned into Pier Six Harbour Rooftop which will be enclosed, increasing the City’s indoor rental venue options.
Making the announcement was City of Hamilton Mayor, Graeme Outerbridge who stated, “Renovations for Pier Six began last month and we are very pleased with the look and feel of this important city venue.
“It has undergone a metamorphosis and become a beautiful location to hold events on the water’s edge in the heart of Hamilton. This newly renovated space will also be the new home for The City Market.
“On October 31, the City will welcome “Silver Whisper” the first cruise ship to use the new Arrivals Terminal. On November 13 and 14 the ILS Convergence 013 conference will take place.
“Insurance-linked securities and capital markets experts from around the world will gather to network and discuss developments in this fast growing sector of the insurance market. A public Open House will be held on November 15 at Pier Six followed immediately by The City Market’s grand reopening on November 16.”
Mayor Outerbridge added, “The City is pleased to partner with the Whitfield Group Ltd., who approached the City of Hamilton Council with the concept of tenting the top of Pier Six thereby creating a 4,000sq ft conventions, meetings and events venue.”
Suzie Pewter, President of the Whitfield Group Ltd., added, “The creation of the Pier Six Harbour Rooftop is a perfect example of collaboration between the private and public sectors to create a new event facility that can play host to a wide range of events, from small intimate gatherings to large events with a maximum capacity of over 700 people on the covered terrace alone.
“With 26 years in the event business and since bringing this concept to the City Council, we have worked for almost a year with the Mayor and his team to make Pier Six Harbour Rooftop a reality. We are delighted to help bring this much-needed new facility to the City.”
Mayor Outerbridge concluded, “I must thank the City of Hamilton team who worked tirelessly to ensure the property was completed in time for the cruise ship’s arrival tomorrow. With the relaunch of Pier Six, the City of Hamilton Council continues with its Vibrant City initiative of providing and creating opportunities for events and activities to take place in and around Hamilton.”
