Locals Line Up For Cake Shop’s Hot Cross Buns
With less than 24 hours to go until Good Friday begins, Bermudians are in full preparation mode, with a line forming outside the Cake Shop on Curving Avenue this morning [Apr 17] as locals queued up to purchase hot cross buns from the popular bakery.
There are a host of events happening tomorrow including Chewstick’s Kitefest at Horseshoe Bay Beach, the Family Fun Day at Devils Hole Field, the PHC Fun Day in Warwick, the Devonshire Recreation Club’s Fun Day in Devonshire, and the Gilbert Lamb Day in St. David’s.

We used to go to the bakery on the morning of Good Friday, and they really were hot from the oven…. – how things have changed!
The buns were warm when purchased, fresh from the oven we had to leave the bags open. Thanks cake shop
Vaaa mate, dem dings VELL bie!
They definitely are good there but sadly this year it’s not very well organized – waited over an hour and people’s tempers were running low. Will have to definitely think about just getting them at the supermarket next year….
Awesome Buns….. I was in and out this morning loved the friendly service but I do understand how others would feel because the line was very long and the traffic well lets just say people were talking about calling the police, but they should know EVERY year it will be rammed around there.
Also to that fact it’s not like it’s an everyday occurrence. One day out of the year???? really????…Knowing that it’s going to be busy one should allow themselves just a bit of “extra time” just in case……
I guess this is a sign of the times, when people queue up to BUY buns. I guess I am just an old school fool but we are losing the traditions of baking and cooking. Store bought? Not for me, but each to his/her own.
Just make your own! No line.
Tried it a couple of times. Ended up with “Rock Cross Buns”! So unless people are willing to lose a tooth, I’ll be in that line next year!
I agree with James….Ma is 76 and with trembling hands she can still produce a good pan of buns….sadly her daughter (my sister) is captured in the pic above!
