Man Pleads “Guilty With An Explanation”
Appearing in Magistrates Court yesterday [Apr 15], a 55-year-old man pleaded “guilty with an explanation” to a charge he assaulted another man.
Mr Basil Stewart pleaded guilty with an explanation to a charge of unlawfully assaulting another man and causing him bodily harm following an incident took place at the Salvation Army Shelter in North Hamilton in February 2014.
Mr Stewart explained to Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that he and the other man had an altercation; that the other man had first assaulted him by poking him in the nose; that he had punched the man and knocked him down.
Mr Stewart said that the whole matter was over in less than two minutes, and that he and the man did have a history of friction stemming from a serious incident in 2007.
The Magistrate said that it appeared that there was “bad blood” between the two men. After hearing all, the Magistrate convicted Mr Stewart and ordered a $500 fine.

How do you expect him to pay $500, if he’s at S.A.? Our court system is wicked n money hungry… this man could’ve/should’ve gotten community service and some sort of disciplined conditions…May God give us all wisdom
Sorry, Godson…apparently God has NOT given us all wisdom. This guy got what he had coming to him, because he did something really stupid. He’s old enough to know better, though I’m not sure he does.
Sounds like self defence to me – or is it such a thing as self defence in Bermuda
In the house of God?
On nuetral ground…let me say this about that….If one man is wrong …he is wrong. If two men are wrong….no man is right…..In Gods’ house only he is right.
