Memorial Service To Honour Sir David Gibbons
A memorial service has been set to celebrate the life of Sir David Gibbons [pictured left]. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity in Hamilton at 3.00pm.
A spokesperson for the family said, “Rev. Nicholas Dill, Bishop of Bermuda, will officiate the service. Tributes will be delivered by Sir David Gibbons’ sons, James and David, as well as former Premier of Bermuda, Sir John Swan.
“Sir David Gibbons committed his life’s work to Bermuda, serving as Premier from 1977 to 1982 as well as Finance Minister. He was also former Chairman of the Bank of N. T. Butterfield & Son Limited, Chairman of the Bermuda Monetary Authoritym and Director of Massachusetts Financial Services.
“Prior to his death, Sir David was Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of Edmund Gibbons Limited and Chairman Emeritus of Colonial Group International Limited as well as CAPITAL G Bank Limited.
“He died on Sunday, March 30, after a brief illness.
“Please be advised that the following businesses will close at 2.00pm on Thursday, April 24 in respect of the memorial ceremony and to allow employees and affiliates to attend the service:
