Chinese Puzzle & Antarctica To Screen At BUEI

May 13, 2014

A documentary that has won 16 international awards and a well-received French romantic comedy starring two of that country’s most popular actors will feature at the Weekend Film Series on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s [BUEI] Tradewinds Auditorium.

Antarctica: A Year on Ice, screening at 3.00pm, tells the story of people who live year-round on the continent of Antarctica, enduring six months of winter isolation amidst the world’s harshest weather conditions.

Most films crews who travel to Antarctica drop in for a few weeks during the summer, but director Anthony Powell has spent 10 winters in Antarctica. He has filmed year-round, and the film combines stunning cinematography with the insights of those who live and work in Antarctica.”

Powell’s work has appeared in numerous films, exhibits, and television shows. He most recently featured in the Emmy Award-winning BBC series Frozen Planet. This is his first feature film.

Chinese Puzzle, screening at 5.15pm., features Audrey Tautou [Amelie] and Romain Duris [Heartbreaker, Populaire]. Novelist Xavier, played by Duris, sees his life turned upside down when his wife Wendy, played by Kelly Reilly, announces that she is moving to New York and taking the kids.

Xavier follows her to the Big Apple, where he must deal with his ex, her new beau, his two kids, a woman who is carrying his child, and cultural differences. When ex-girlfriend Martine, played by Tautou, shows up, though, things get really complicated in this likeable and entertaining film.”
