“Crazy Dares” Help BBBS To Raise Funds
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda [BBBS] is currently raising money via its “How much would you pay to see me…?” fundraiser, with local celebrities getting set to take the stage in order to perform “crazy dares” at Harbour Nights on Wednesday, June 25, 2014.
A spokesperson said, “Each participant is aiming to raise at least $1,500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda through encouraging members of the community to make a pledge to see them do their dares.
“In 2012 we witnessed Opposition Member of Parliament Zane DeSilva getting a pie thrown at his face and having his hair sprayed green by children from the audience, government MP Jeff Sousa fighting Bermuda’s female boxing champion Teresa Perozzi and getting a bloody nose, and E. Michael Jones eating a feast of crickets, worms, larvae, and pig’s ears, served on fine china with mayonnaise.”
“This year, the sky is the limit. Some of the dares for 2014 are spending a few minutes in a case of cockroaches, jumping overboard in a gown, kissing a pig, dressing in drag, acting like a dog, and being wrapped in toilet paper; there are 15 dares in total.
“This year’s contestants are Senator Jeff Baron, Wayne Furbert, Town Crier Ed Christopher, Principal Charles Joynes of Northlands Primary, DJ Bitsy from Hott 107.5, Kristin White, Andrew Griffith, Chris Famous, Don Burgess of the Bermuda Sun, Dwayne Caines, Miss Bermuda Katie Arnfield, DJ Chubb and Sherri Berri from Vibe 103, Fancy from Power 95, Brother Richie from Hott 107.5, and Gavin “Djata” Smith of Chewstick.”
Patrina O’Connor-Paynter, Fund Development Director for BBBS, said, “Like most charities in Bermuda, we are also facing hard economic times. We realize that in order for us to continue servicing the youth of Bermuda, we must come up with new and innovative ways to raise funds.”
Action from the 2012 iteration of BBBS’ dares fundraiser:
“This event was a success in 2012, therefore we have decided to do it again this year. Our contestants are amazing and we are looking forward to a great show. We would like to thank the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce for their support of this event.”
