Govt. House Issues British Passport Advisory
Today, a Government House spokesperson advised, “We have learned from Her Majesty’s Passport Office [HMPO] that they are dealing with the highest demand for passports for 12 years and that this has resulted in longer-than-expected turnaround times. Since January, HMPO has been putting steps in place to deal with the extra demand.”
“From Tuesday 24 June, British nationals in Bermuda can apply for their British passports [that is, not Bermuda BOTC passports] to be extended for 12 months. The criteria for applying for a passport extension can be found at the Gov.UK website.
“Government House is the local contact point for extensions.”
The Government House spokesperson concluded, “Applicants are advised to check the websites of the border authorities of countries to which they are travelling to confirm whether restrictions will apply.
“The authorities in the UK and Canada will accept UK passports with a valid extension endorsement. It is hoped that a further announcement will follow shortly in respect of travellers to the USA.”

Almost a half million passport applications!!
It seems the UK government has the same kind of control of its passports as it does with its borders! No wonder Scotland wants Independence!
My son’s passport has been ‘processing’ since Feb 27. Still waiting!!
