Charges Alleging Threatening Words Dropped
In Magistrates Court today [July 17], a man accused of using threatening words on May 19, 2014 walked free after the Crown Prosecutor dropped the charge and Senior Magistrate Archie Warner dismissed the case.
Explaining the Crown’s action, the Prosecutor told the Magistrate that on May 19, 2014, under the tree outside Belvin’s on Happy Valley Road in Pembroke, the complainant was handing out what were described as souvenirs of a religious nature. The defendant, a 37-year-old man, allegedly told the gentleman to move away, saying to him, “F*** you, your church is a fraud.”
The man did move away, but returned soon after and spoke to the defendant. On his return, the defendant then allegedly told him, “I will stab you and f*** you up. F*** you and your church. Move away.”
The Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that in light of this evidence, the Crown would not proceed with the charge. He said that the language was not polite, but in light of all the evidence, the Crown was of the view that it could not fully substantiate the charge.
The Senior Magistrate commented that, in the past, people had been burned at the stake for religious proselytizing.
The Magistrate dismissed the charges and told the defendant that he was free to go.

confused
the Magistrate said in the past people had been burned at the stake for religious proselytizing
to proselytize means to convert another to a religion
by this account the gentleman distributing the religious souvenirs would have been burned back in the day
perhaps this explains why the Crown dropped the charges and the Magistrate dismissed the case
or rather maybe the Magistrate meant to say in the past people were burned at the stake for being religious apostates
Maybe it’s a super hero costume…..poopy doody man perhaps….look up in the sky…it’s a bird….it’s a plane….Nooo!…..IT’S POOPY DOODY MAN!….run for your lives!
