Tucker’s Point: “Action To Right Overstaffing”
The receivers handling Rosewood Tucker’s Point resort confirmed that “action has been taken to right size overstaffing through separations.”
The number of “separations” is unclear, however yesterday Bernews received an email from someone connected with the property who indicated there had been layoffs.
The person said they believe there may have been three layoffs in one department, and four in another, however that is unofficial and unconfirmed.
In response to our queries about layoffs, the receiver EY said, “The receivership has been in place since September 2013.
“During this time, the receivers have been constantly reviewing the operations of the hotel in order to continue to achieve greater operational efficiencies. Action has been taken to right size overstaffing through separations.
“We do not take lightly the impact that staff separations have on individuals. The receivers remain focused on continuing the transformation journey of the hotel with the goal of attracting and transitioning ownership of a viable business to a new investor.
“We have had ongoing and robust consultations with the Bermuda Industrial Union [BIU] in recent months. The hotel is appreciative of the high level of engagement with and direction from the BIU.
“The future sustainability and success of the hotel are top priority, and vital for the benefit of Bermuda – to both employ and enjoy – for generations to come,” added EY.
The property went into receivership last September, and at that time the receiver, EY, said: “Tucker’s Point has been experiencing financial difficulties recently and a restructuring of the companies that own the property is required to secure the resort’s long-term viability”.
“The appointment of Receivers is part of a debt restructuring and will not affect the operation of the resort. The proposed restructuring should put Tucker’s Point in a better position to continue operating as a flagship Bermuda resort in future seasons.”
Interesting to see how the BIU behave with this given all the proper notices seem to have been given. That seemed to be their main point of concern when the bar men at the Hamilton Princess we let go.

Tucker’s Point always has problems. Doesn’t surprise me at all. Work there? No way.
And when are we building a new hotel in St. George? C’mon man!
“Seperations” sure is an interesting euphemism for layoffs. I instantly don;t trust people who use language like this.

an eyesore that should never have built,it’s very non Bermudian and an ugly set of buildings.
They are probably very nervous given recent union dealings in the news lately.
This is just one more reason you can’t get a loan at the bank…this,pool/stadium/hospital/court building/berkley institute/allllllllll those govt. Vehicles and equiptment/vast increase in size and expense of civil service…..alllll these things plp spent money on,and borrowed,and spent,and borrowed and spent….have you noticed you can’t get a loan lately?
