Evangelical Church Appoints Associate Pastor

September 26, 2014

The Evangelical Church of Bermuda have announced that that they have welcomed Paul Heffernan as their new Associate Pastor, joining Senior Pastor Robert Fischer in the church’s ministry.

“ECB is looking toward the future in terms of growth in both our outreach to our community, and in our ministry within the church,” explained Pastor Fischer. “There is much to be done in order for us to reach this generation and the next.

“One pastor simply cannot do it alone. The addition of Pastor Paul will give us greater opportunities to accomplish our present goals, prepare for the future, and provide stability for the church as a whole.”

For the last 8 years, Pastor Paul has served as a missionary with Word of Life Bermuda with his wife, Heidi, and also filled in as the church’s interim pastor prior to Pastor Fischer’s appointment last year.

He completed his theological training at New Brunswick Bible Institute, receiving a diploma in Biblical and Theological Studies, an Advanced Biblical Ministries diploma, and has also completed studies in Biblical counseling.

“The Lord led me to this point through much prayer, an increasing passion for the pastorate, and confirmation from others,” Pastor Paul shared.

The father of four, he said, “My family is excited and supportive about my new role.”

As Associate Pastor, Pastor Paul’s role will be wide-ranging, but will include leading the church’s teen ministry, known as AMP, the Young Couples Ministry, counseling, visitation, teaching, outreach, and discipleship.

Pastor Paul and his wife, who grew up attending Evangelical, were officially called into the ministry at Evangelical in a special service on Sunday, September 14.

“I am so excited to have Paul on staff,” Pastor Fischer added. “He is a fine young man, well equipped for ministry. He is prepared to fill this role and has proven himself to be open to God’s leading for the future in his life.

“He is a gifted teacher of the Word of God and has a real heart for ministry. He is known, trusted, and loved by our people at ECB for the years he has already served. I think that his coming on staff will open many new doorways of ministry for Evangelical, both now and in the future.”
