Fundraising Professionals Programme Opens

An opportunity has arisen for two local fundraisers to participate in a skills and leadership development programme under the direction of Mentor, Sharilyn Hale of Watermark Philanthropic Advising, the Bermuda Chapter of AFP [Association of Fundraising Professionals] announced today.

Sharilyn Hale, M.A., CFRE is Founder & Principal of Watermark Philanthropic Advising, an independent consultancy offering organizations and philanthropists strategies for meaningful giving, receiving and leading. Having worked with organizations around the world, Ms Hale is also familiar with the charitable sector in Bermuda where she has visited, volunteered and conducted training over the last 20 years.

The programme will include customised individual learning and mentoring through in-person and skype interactions over the course of 5 months. Key objectives will be geared towards identification of goals [e.g. completing a fund development plan], success measures [e.g. number of successful solicitations], and priorities for learning [e.g. managing my relationship with the ED/CEO], in consideration of the needs and priorities of their organization. At the completion, the development of a plan will provide the framework and road map for the engagement relationship.

To be eligible, applicants must be AFP members with 0-5 years of experience, currently employed in a paid full-time position within a Bermuda charity, with responsibility for the overall fund development portfolio or a specific fundraising program.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a letter expressing their interest, preferred learning goals and career aspirations, as well as a letter from their employer indicating participation approval. Employers must fully endorse involvement in the program, including the provision of paid work time for active participation. Applicants must be aware of the time commitment outlined below:-

  • Five month program participation support – [October 15 – March 15]
  • Two full days each of on-site support and coaching each – [November 2014]
  • Ten hours each of Skype counsel – [2 hours per month]
  • Professional support, review and feedback on work products
