Nahki Wells & Huddersfield Fall To Watford

September 1, 2014

Nahki Wells and Huddersfield Town met up with Watford on Saturday [Aug 30], playing a tight game that looked to be going in Town’s favour before eventually dropping a 4-2 decision. Wells started the match on the bench, with the team resting him following a recent knock to his ankle, and he came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute.

According to the official match report, “This game looked to be turning in Town’s favour when Murray Wallace made it 2-2 and Watford went down to ten men, but a quick-fire set piece goal from Keith Andrews changed that quickly and the Terriers couldn’t recover.

“Despite showing good character to come from behind twice through Wallace and, initially, Harry Bunn, Town switched off from a set-piece to go behind and were caught by a late sucker-punch when midfielder Almen Abdi netted a fourth deep into added time.

“Coming into the side was James Vaughan for his first start of the season; Nahki Wells dropping to the bench after a kick to his ankle from the previous weekend.

“Town had all the possession as Wells, twice, and Hammill all had shots at goal that were saved, until deep into the six minutes of added Watford made certain of the points for the hosts when Abdi grabbed his second on a counter-attack.”

Wells and Huddersfield will next meet Middlesbrough on September 13 at John Smith’s Stadium.
