Bermuda Chess League To Launch On March 7
The Bermuda Chess League is getting set to launch on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Berkeley Institute Cafetorium, with proceedings to get underway at 11.00am.
The Bermuda Chess League will provide an avenue for the island’s best players to represent Bermuda in international tournaments, while also establishing and maintaining an international tournament hosted on the island.
A post on the League’s website, quotes the founder Lyle Butterfield as saying, “We aim to encourage people of all walks of life and from every aspect of society to come together and share the passion for the great sport of chess.
“I returned to Bermuda in September 2014 after living in Ontario, Canada for a decade. Soon after my return, I realised many people on the island share my passion for chess, young and old.
“I started The Bermuda Chess League to be the main hub of competitive chess in Bermuda. I also want to focus on teaching kids and developing their skills so that they can reach full potential in the game.
“Also I would like to visit senior homes regularly and play chess with the seniors, just to keep them entertained and their minds sharp. My dream is to see Bermuda become a force internationally in chess tournaments.”
