Bermuda Rugby U17 Continues Recent Work
Many players from the Bermuda Rugby U17 squad were recently involved in the Ariel Re High School league, playing for Warwick, Saltus, Berkeley, and Bermuda Institute in two very competitive matches, all after their recent fish fry seeing about 350 dinners being sold.
A spokesperson said, “The fish fry fundraiser, organized by Geraldine Smith and many of the parents, took place at the ex-Artillery Association building on Victoria Street with Kenny’s kitchen.”
“The squad was actively involved in meeting the high demand for fish dinners, resulting in circa 350 dinners being sold. Many thanks to all that helped make this event a resounding success and kindly donated their time and food to the event.”
“On February 28, part II of the squads work with the Friends of the Railway Trail site at Store Hill was focused on the last items to be cleared on the site to enable the bridge plans to progress.”
“The squad arrived as the weather started to deteriorate and by ten o’clock the weather had turned to UK weather which was an excellent dry run for the boys to acclimatize them to the weather we will face next month.
“We diligently worked with Mike and Tucker Murphy and the Parks Department to clear the remaining trees and debris in this area and we left satisfied that we had played our part in assisting with the development of the Railway trail.”
“We want to thank Mike and Tucker Murphy and the Parks Department for the opportunity to work closely with them on this part of their project and look forward to assisting them again at some point in the future.
“After the morning activities, the squad had a quick lunch and off to the NSC for 90 minutes of training. The focus of the training was on the technical aspects of the game plus managing fatigue levels given the physical activity in the morning.”
“On Sunday, March 1, given the Ireland vs England Six Nations game was on at 11.00am, the coaches needed to make a sacrifice to ensure we had a successful training session starting at 11.00am. No one was allowed to discuss the match or result as the coaches had the game taped.
“There was a strong turnout from the squad given the numerous activities over the weekend.”
“In summary, the ethos of rugby is founded on a number of key principles including respect, leadership, engagement, enjoyment and commitment.
“The concentration of the squad’s activities this weekend brought the group together and made them a stronger team, many of them showed leadership qualities at the fish fry and Railway trail clean up, they were very engaged throughout the weekend and they showed commitment to the cause and their teammates – Devrae would be proud of each and everyone one of them.
“Three weeks to go and counting!”
