Mussenden, Sabir Attend CONCACAF Congress
Bermuda Football Association [BFA] President Larry Mussenden and General Secretary David Sabir attended the CONCACAF Ordinary Congress and Extra-Ordinary Congress on Thursday, 16 April 2015 in Nassau, Bahamas.
“The Ordinary Congress was addressed by CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb, who guided the delegates through the agenda. His presentation included reports on competitions, finance, refereeing, marketing, and women’s football,” the BFA said.
“FIFA President Blatter also addressed the Congress and highlighted the important work of CONCACAF and member countries in the development of football throughout the region. He stated that it was his desire to grant CONCACAF four automatic slots for the World Cup.
“Elections were held for several positions on the CONCACAF Executive Committee, as well as for the Central American position on the FIFA Executive Committee.
“The Extra Ordinary Congress followed thereafter and saw the Congress accept the new CONCACAF Statutes. One area of interest to Bermuda was that the three Unions in CONCACAF were defined with their respective memberships.
“Bermuda and The Bahamas were listed in the North America Football Union [NAFU] along with Canada, Mexico and the United States, with the clause that Bermuda and The Bahamas would compete through the Caribbean Football Union [CFU].
“The Congresses were also attended by the three candidates who have challenged President Blatter for the position of FIFA President.
“In May 2015, three BFA representatives will attend the FIFA Congress in Zurich, Switzerland. The Delegation will be led by BFA First VP Mark Wade, with Second VP Gregory Grimes and Executive Member Crenstant Williams also attending.
“BFA President Larry Mussenden will attend the FIFA Congress in his capacity as Chairman of the Electoral Committee that will run the election for the position of FIFA Presidency.”
