Video: 2015 Corrections Week Gets Underway
[Updated with video] Today [May 4] the Premier and Minister of National Security Michael Dunkley officially opened Corrections Week 2015 and read the Corrections Week 2015 Proclamation outside Cabinet Office.
The Premier was joined by Senator Jeff Baron, Commissioner of Corrections Lt. Col. Edward Lamb, Education Officer Shawnette Somner, and the winners of the essay competition – “Commissioner For A Day” and those students who received an honourable mention for their entries. The ceremony was also attended by staff members of Corrections Department.
A spokesperson said, “The aim of Corrections Week is to increase public awareness of the services and contributions of the men and women of the Corrections Department. The week will serve to celebrate the role of the Department in the community, empower our inmates to be productive citizens, reduce recidivism and raise awareness of violence reduction programs, mentorship programs and victim empathy programs.”
The Prisons have offered many an opportunity to do better with themselves; to get up “on an even keel”, acknowledging there are far-more important things to do with ones “time”.
