Bermudian Artists Release New Song ‘Crossfit’

May 27, 2015

Two talented Bermudian artists have teamed up to create a new summer anthem with the song ‘Crossfit,’ an energetic soca tune by Rowdy Piper on a lively riddim from Derek G, both of Devils Isles Entertainment.

A spokesperson said, “In soca and reggae music, the instrumental accompaniment to a song, known as a ‘riddim,’ is often voiced by many different artists.

“Producer Derek G. Simmons composed the Crossfit riddim with the idea in mind of inviting several different Bermudian talents to tackle the song with their unique style and flair, creating the first Bermudian soca riddim compilation.

“The lead single of the Crossfit riddim is by Rowdy Piper. Several local artists are in the process of creating and recording their songs on the riddim, including Jiv, Ramon Clarke, Tan Zaoui, and others.”

Derek G said, “I think that Bermudian artists should embrace the same musical elements that we support in our listening choices. Bermudians should not be limited to performing only certain genres because of regional stigmas.

“It is exciting to create a soca project that features Bermudian accents and a uniquely local sound.”

Audio of the new song, press play to listen:

“Rowdy Piper, also known as R?ddla, or Roddy Nesbitt to his friends, is one of Bermuda’s most prolific hip hop talents. The MC currently performs with the D.I.A. band as male vocal lead and support vocalist. A well-rounded artist, Roddy also enjoys acting, and performed in Fences.

“Rowdy Piper has more love for the stage than the studio and hasn’t released a solo project in over a decade, making the Crossfit single an exciting addition to his catalogue of recorded work. Recently he has made guest appearances on releases by K.A.S.E. [#MUG] and Derek G. [Stealth Ninja Chronicles I and II].

“The album artwork was designed by Bermudian graphic artist Kyle Ball, and the song was recorded and mixed at Near Future Records by Shane Woodley.”

Crossfit is available to stream or as a free download on Soundcloud.

Rowdy Piper, Derek G, and the rest of the D.I.A. band will be performing the song during an opening set for the free concert that launches Bermuda Heroes Weekend on Friday, June 12 on Front Street.
