Parents Trying To Move Forward After ‘Dark Days’
Malcolm Griffiths has been found guilty in a UK court of causing death by careless driving following a collision that claimed the life of 20-year-old William Ruewell, whose parents said they are trying to “pull our lives back together and move forward as a family from what have been many dark days.”
Mr. Griffiths was arrested following the fatal collision which occurred in the UK in August 2014, and charged shortly thereafter.
Littlehamptongazette.com reports, “At Chichester Magistrates’ Court on Friday [June 19] Malcolm Griffiths, from Bermuda, was found guilty of causing death by careless driving.
“The 69-year-old was fined £5,000 [about $7,870 USD] and ordered to pay £1,800 [about $2,833 USD] in costs, along with a £120 [about $188 USD] victim surcharge. He was also disqualified from driving for two years and will be required to take an extended driving test, according to Sussex Police.”
William Ruewell, aged 17, with his sisters Lydia and Ellie:
“His father, Phillip, said his son had been ‘upon the threshold of his life’. He thanked Sussex Police Accident Investigation Unit for its ‘considerable efforts’ in the case. “His tragic passing has affected so many,” he added. “William will be remembered with deep affection by all who knew him.”

William Ruewell, who would have turned 21-years-old on June 27th, enjoyed carpentry, motorcycling, and playing football, and received certificates of merits and distinctions during his time at Chichester College.
His parents, Philip and Barbara Ruewell told Bernews, “The family believe that the verdict of the Court was the correct one and were particularly grateful to the Judge for his assertion that neither William, nor Christopher James, who was also involved and was the main witness for the prosecution, were in any way to blame for the accident.
“Now the matter has been determined we have to try and pull our lives back together and move forward as a family from what have been many dark days.”

RIP William
A sad case. None of us can claim that we have never done something careless while behind the wheel of a vehicle.
Thank you to the family who thought it worthwhile to share this story, and allow the rest of us to not only sit back and ponder on the message you are trying to convey, but also to remember you during this time and even into the future, when all the majority may have forgotten your story, let there be those who is so impacted that we do not forget to offer up prayers to God on your behalf, for the times that it becomes to unbearable to even think of the memories along with the tragedy.
Thank you again and may this story cause us to stop and think about the real message that it conveys.
this is very sad it always is when someone loses their life so young, but mistakes happen and everyone makes them. my prayers are with the boys family and with Mr.Griffiths who I am sure is suffering as well.
