MP Weeks Congratulates Bermuda’s Athletes
Shadow Sports Minister Michael Weeks has congratulated the numerous Bermudians who have represented Bermuda well over the past weekend.
Mr Weeks said, “Triathlete Flora Duffy won the first Pan Am Games medal for Bermuda in the form of a bronze medal, since 2003.
“Samir Furqan, Sentwali Woolridge and Reyel Bowen all won their divisions at the International Chinese Martial Arts Championships; Furqan in Super Lightweight, Woolridge in Super Middleweight, and Bowen in Light Heavyweight.
“Congratulations are also due to boxer Nikki Bascome [pictured below], who scored a knockout victory at the Extreme Entertainment Knock Out Night at Bermuda College on Saturday Night.
“We would also like to congratulate all those medal winners from the Island Games held in Jersey recently – Chris Estwanik with 2 gold and 1 silver medal, Taahira Butterfield with 2 gold medals, Dominique Mayho with 1 gold, Natasha Trott with 2 silver medals, David Kendell with 1 silver, Adrienne Smatt with 1 silver, Kalin Hillier with 1 bronze, Gabriella Arnold with 1 bronze, the Bermuda Women’s Cycling Team with 1 silver and 1 bronze, the Bermuda Men’s Basketball team with 1 silver, and the Bermuda Men’s Golf Team with a Bronze.
“We are proud of all Bermuda’s winners and participants and look forward to great things from all athletes in the future. With dedication, support and effort, we are sure they can all succeed on the international stage,” added Mr Weeks.
