BSSF School Football Tournament To Kick Off
A total of twenty matches will be played over the course of two days to determine the Bermuda School Sports Federation Knock Out Football Champions in eight divisions.
All of the matches will be played at the National Sports Centre North Fields and the BFA field. All matches will be free to the general public
The matches get underway on Friday at 2:30 with the Primary School girls and the middle school under 13 boys semi finals. Bermuda high School are looking to defend their title in the Primary school girls division. They will take on the 2015 six a side champions West End Primary.
One of the schools will taste defeat for the first time this season as both teams won their respective zones undefeated. The other semifinal will feature Elliot Primary taking on the winner of the Saltus Grammar School vs Dalton E. Tucker semifinal. Elliot also won their zone undefeated.
Saltus Grammar School and the Whitney Institute highlight the under 13 semifinals. Both teams finished the season undefeated after their 1-1 draw towards the end of the season. Defending champions Dellwood Middle School and Sandys Secondary Middle School will both be looking to pull off an upset to earn a spot in Saturdays final.
Saltus will face Sandys in the semifinal. Saltus defeated T.N.Tatem 6-1 in the quarter final while Sandys edged past Somersfield Academy on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw. Whitney disposed of Clearwater Middle School 5-0 in their quarter final and will face Dellwood who edged past Warwick Academy 3-2
The 4:00 matches will feature the middle school girls and over 13 boy’s semi finals. Three time defending champions Saltus Grammar school has drawn a talented Whitney Institute in the semifinal. Both enjoyed comfortable 3-0 wins in their quarter finals. Saltus defeated Clearwater Middle school while Whitney defeated Sandys. Undefeated league champions will square off against BHS in the other semifinal. Tatem will look to add the KO cup trophy to the league and six a side championship titles. They take on BHS who defeated Warwick academy 2-0 in the quarter finals.
Undefeated league and six a side champions Whitney institute look to continue their dominance in the age group when they tackle Sandys Secondary Middle school in the semi final. Whitney had a bye into the semis while Sandys defeated Dellwood 3-0. Saltus will take defending champions T.N.Tatem in the other semifinal. Saltus edged by Warwick Academy 3-2 while Tatem defeated Clearwater.
The primary school boys will square off at 5:30 as well as the senior school girls. Defending champions Somersfield Academy will take on St. George’s Preparatory for the second year running in the Primary School boy’s semifinal. Both teams finished their zones undefeated and will be keen to lift the trophy.
St. George’s had defeated east central zone runners up Elliot Primary 4-3 in the quart finals while Somerfield Academy defeated east runners up Harrington Sound 3-2 in another tightly contested match. The other two semifinals were not as close as West Central undefeated champions Saltus Grammar School knocked west runner up Dalton E. tucker 5-0. West Central Runners up defeated West champions Somerset Primary 6-0 in the other quarter final. West Pembroke will look to avenge a 3-0 league defeat when they take on Saltus in the semifinal.
Berkeley Institute and CedarBridge Academy will be favorites to advance to the final in the senior school girls division. Both teams boast at least six players which recently represented Bermuda in the CFU under 17 championships. Defending champions CedarBridge academy will play BHS in their semifinal while league champions the Berkeley institute will take on a well-organized Saltus team looking for the upset.
The over 16 boys will play their semifinals at 7:00. 2015 league champions Berkeley institute will play Warwick Academy. CedarBridge Academy and Saltus Grammar school played two very entertaining and close league matches and an entertaining match is anticipated in their semifinal match up.
CedarBridge Academy defeated Saltus Grammar school 4-1 to earn a place in the under 16 final on Saturday. They will take on Berkeley Green who defeated Berkeley Gold in the semifinal on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw.
