French Guiana Match Abandoned Due To Rain

June 1, 2016

Bermuda faced French Guiana tonight [June 1] in the 2nd round of the Caribbean Cup competition before heavy rain at the Stade Dr Edmard Lama Stadium forced the match to be abandoned. Damon Ming scored the game’s only goal in the 11th minute.

A Bermuda Football Association [BFA] spokesperson said the “game was abandoned due to heavy rain after 41 minutes of play with Bermuda leading 1-0. The Caribbean Football Union [CFU] will reschedule the match with a date yet to be confirmed.

“The Bermuda National Team starts their journey home tomorrow Thursday 2 June from French Guiana to arrive in Bermuda on Friday.”

The next Caribbean Cup Match will see Bermuda take on Dominican Republic at 9.00pm on Saturday [June 4] at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire. Tickets for the Bermuda vs. Dominican Republic match are on sale at Ptix.bm and at the BFA office, 1 Gymnasium Road, Prospect, 295-2199.”

    Well done Damon!!

  2. I heart 441 says:

What happens now, rematch, each team awarded a point,Bermuda wins based on the score up until the game was halted?

    • PBanks says:

Since the match was marked as abandoned, there’s no way Bermuda will be getting the full three points from this (although the scored goal will count for the tournament stats). Most likely they’ll try to reschedule, hopefully CFU accounted for such a situation.

Hopefully the rematch will not be at BFA’s expense. I heard it was an expensive trip to get the team there. CFU should have a fund for situations like this.
