Junior Cyclists Head To St. Lucia To Compete

Bermuda’s junior cycling team is on their way to St. Lucia for the 2016 Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships which will be held this weekend.

A spokesperson said, “Unfortunately the team will be missing Matthew Oliveira who is ill and unable to travel, leaving Kaden Hopkins and Dylan Hill to represent Bermuda in the 15-16 year-old category and Alyssa Rowse in the 15-18 year old women’s group.

“Traveling with the team are BBA Executive Committee member Wenda Roberts and Peter Dunne, the BBA’s president.”

“The team is scheduled to arrive in St. Lucia Thursday afternoon ahead of a 10 kilometre individual time trial on Saturday and then a road race on Sunday. Hopkins and Rowse will contest the time trial in their respective categories and Hill will join Hopkins for the Sunday event.

“The boys will race 62 kilometres while Rowse’s road event is 50 kilometres.

“2016 represents the 11th edition of this regional championships for cyclists between the ages of 15 and 18. Bermuda has attended every one of these and had medal-winning performances in all but three of the years.

“Championship titles were have been won for Bermuda by Molly Pilgrim [2001- time trial and road race], Dominique Mayho [2011 - road race], Daniel Oatley [2012 - time trial] and Gabriella Arnold [2012 - road race]. Updated results will be distributed as soon as available.”
