Trey Mallory Defeats #2 Seed At Tournament
Following his upset of the number four seed at the Junior International Tennis Championships for Central America and the Caribbean in El Salvador, Bermuda’s Trey Mallory has gone on to defeat the number two seed.
Mallory bested Kobe James of Trinidad in 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 sets.
Coach Steve Bean said, “Mallory, aged 14, playing in the 16 and Unders has had a great tournament. He has won five of his six matches, upsetting the number two and four seeds along the way. Tomorrow he has a chance to finish the tournament in ninth place from a total of 42 of the top players in the Caribbean and Central American region.
“This is great accomplishment and a huge boost for tennis in Bermuda.”
Scott Redmond fell to Darren Martis of Curaçao in another tightly contested match, in 6-4, 7-5 sets.
Coach Bean said, “To come so close to winning after such a long week of very competitive matches this was a tough loss for Redmond. He continued to fight and remain positive throughout the match. A few points here and there in each set made the difference.
“Redmond has one more match tomorrow, we will do everything we can to finish with a victory.”
Well done young man.
Wishing you ALL the BEST in your future.
